Will be really interesting, as for 1st in the 12'6 division last year I got a case of VB, and the first place in the 14 division got I think $1500 from memory? The main guys/girls were paddling 14 footers last year.
You would be really disappointing if based on last year you had been training for this event on a 14 footer. Also for the reason that not everyone has the means to own a 14 and 12'6. Logically most guys I know would train and race that distance on a 14 board.
Last year this was a really well run and benchmark event for Downwind racing. This year it is looking like there are other factors that are more than likely going to cause some good paddlers to reconsider racing.
Not disclosing where the prize money is going in the marathon divisions put paddlers who are entering in a odd position. Do they enter the 12'6 because that is where the money is? or is it? or the 14 class ? Or do they paddle for the case of VB ![]()
I am not in the race for the cash anyway, and it's not about the money but just think it is all a bit odd. It is literally just over a week until the event. And information flow has not been forthcoming.
Hopefully it is conditions like last year, that would be incredible whatever you were racing on.
Maybe it is a good time for the new SUPAU committee to chime in?
I don't believe it's within the charter of AuSUP to be telling a state association where to assign sponsor prize money.
Other than that, the categories Surfing NSW has in place are consistent with qualification for Surfing Australia's national titles. As an advisory body, AuSUP has had some input into the formulation of these categories. However, the 12'6" class as the elite category for both Open Men and Women in the Marathon is due to the ISA insisting that 12'6" be the only race board category for world titles. Surfing Australia considers it appropriate to maintain a qualification path within a consistent board length elite category.
Personally, I don't think anyone in their right mind would actually CHOOSE to paddle a 12'6" over a marathon distance if they had access and were allowed to paddle a 14'.

Like you Pete I won a case of beer for winning the masters 12'6".
I don't care where the money is , I just want to know what divisions are getting the beer again. ![]()

Can Kiwi's race?
Yep. Come on over JP.
Sam.
Working on it, stoked to see NSW are opening up their state titles up to all, as opposed to that area to the north...GO THE BLUES!!!

If you're referring to the qld titles, the entry rules on SurfingQld website also allow competitors from outside qld to compete in the race divisions, just not in the surfing.

With regard to the Immerse SUP & Paddle Festival, the eligibility is different between the three events:-
Understood...however for QLD events non-australians have to join one of the state bodies, for NSW it's open.
1. SUP Surfing ? must be a QLD resident for at least 3 months prior to the event and hold an Australian Passport (or be eligible to hold one);
2. SUP Marathon Racing ? can reside outside QLD but need to be a member of Surfing Queensland or another state branch. However, you will not be eligible for selection in the QLD team; and
3. SUP Technical Racing - can reside outside QLD but need to be a member of Surfing Queensland or another state branch. However, you will not be eligible for selection in the QLD team.
GO the ALLBLACKS!!!

Thats direct from Surfing Queensland...please enlighten me.
If you read thru the NSW rules for the surfing it is ambiguous.
You must be a NSW member. Further along it says you don't have to be.
Qld titles rules are the same. Ambiguous
first it says you must be a Qld member.
Further down can be a member from another state.
(these rules are there for insurance purpose I would guess at)
If your an international competitor I would ring to find out how you can compete without joining e.g. proving travel insurance maybe.
Therefore
Only NSW people or members can surf in NSW titles (unless you go in state vs state event)
Anyone can compete and surf in Qld titles (as long as a member of a state?)

Or if from overseas just go to NSW. "Event will be open to all international and national competitors but will be the qualification for NSW surfers for the Australian Titles 2013. All Surf Competitors Must be Surfing NSW Members. All Race Competitors do not have to be Surfing NSW member for 2013"
The problem is your comments allude to only NSW been open to everybody. Not True.
The only difference is you have to be a member of a state run association for the races in Qld.
Surfing a member for all states
Not really a problem....
Unless your rock poor

Maaate...Why are you arguing against what is printed on each respective website.
Taken DIRECTLY from the entry websites.
Immerse SUP & Paddle Festival : Condition : Must be a Surfing Queensland member.
Why would I want to join surfing Queensland? I AM FROM NEW ZEALAND!!!
Shoal Bay Resort and Spa Southern Cross SUP Festival : Condition: Event will be open to all International and national competitors but will be the qualification for NSW surfers for the Australian Titles 2013. All Surf Competitors Must be Surfing NSW Members. All Race Competitors do not have to be Surfing NSW member for 2013. U18 Division must be 18 Years and Under as of 31st December 2013. Over 40 Age group must be 40 years old or older as at January 1st 2013.

This is what you said.
So as I said not quite right
Re the surfing , there is a separate division for the Non NSW competitors so it will be a state v state heats , semis & Final even the NSW crew can enter if they want extra time in the water , it's only an open division. This is more fun than anything. None of it will have any impact on NSW competitors results. ![]()
Where is that banging my head against a wall emoticon...
Cos your not listening.
You made out no one can come from another state to compete in Qld.
Like NSW you can. Unless you are surfing. You only pay a little more.
bang your head all you want....

You don't make any sense and contradict yourself so yeah for sure I am not listening, you are clearly just upset that I support the Blues.
Good luck to you mate, by the way anyone wanting to come to New Zealand you don't need any special pass, just a ticket, might even get picked up from the airport if you ask nicely.
Got word today from Sue at surfing NSW today if you are a member of another state or country surfing association you don't need to join Surfing NSW to enter this event. ![]()
conditions are looking good for surfing with off shore winds, and around 4ft of swell
Swell direction thursday may be an issue if you trust the Seabreeze prediction?????
Just an idea regarding the technical race.
After training this morning I realised that I might not be battling with Travis Lincoln or Beau at the end of the race. But still I would love to see it.
So being over 50 I thought that if everybody of this age group wanted to see the elite race finish live, we might ask the organiser to do 1 or 2 laps less....that way we can have the best of both worlds. Racing with the boys and watching the boys!
Anybody else interested in that?

Ha ha, days of westerly winds with following seas and I might be posting from NZ. That is if I can get the net at my possum trapper hut somewhere way down south?
Those islands down toward Antarctica are also looking nice and peaceful. Maybe take some inspiration from David Lewis, head well and truely south of west then squat out at an old whaling station or experdition base?
