The Moon Island Ocean Classic is now part of the Ocean paddler series that includes prestigious events such as the Dr. The event has recently included categories for SUPS and prone boards. In 2014 SUPS were forced to pull out due to a southerly that hit them at Redhead. In 2015 all Newcastle beaches were closed.
2016 is going to be epic. For those who have not been down winding off Newcastle it is epic in a good nor easter. There will be categories for unlimited sups and 14 foot and under. This is a great opportunity to have an awesome downwinder and a beer at the end. Dean Little from Interceptor Skis has put a lot of effort into this event which will be a regular in the down winding calendar.
Get your asses to Newcastle on Jan 16 2016 for a great event. Course is 24 kms (approx) Nobby's Beach - Blacksmiths Beach in a nor easter or Norah Head to Blacksmiths in a southerly. Shuttle bus available from Blacksmiths to the start but must be pre booked.
