Aloha SUP friends, competitors, and staff,
Last year's 2011 inaugural Triple Crown SUP event was a great success. Our staff
and sponsors were so awesome in making this class event happen, and I cannot
forget the competitors who made it fun and full of laughs; it's a great reflection of
the life style of a SUP. Handsome Bugga Productions could not done it without of
you!
Many factors were considered in the design of the event; finances of the
competitors, timing to facilitate travel and possible leisure, coordination with other
events, safety, and celebration. As with last year, these considerations are still
primary in planning the next round and the extent to which these can be met
financially will be the deciding factor for this year's event. This letter is a open letter
and a request for input regarding this year's event.
Last year's main sponsor, Mormaii, will no longer be a supporting sponsor. This
decision is purely business related. We have been fortunate, and are very grateful
for the past two years of support provided by Mormaii…… Thank you Mormaii!
Like wise, sponsor Maui Jim Sunglasses has made the decision to be more involved
and focused on other sports like tennis and golf. Thanks Maui Jim crew and a special
shout out to Bill Haywood.
The search for a new sponsor has not yielded positive results and by way of this
letter, I am asking all concerned to contact Handsome Bugga if you have a lead or
suggestion regarding a potential benefactor.
With the loss of these sponsors, and the possibility that no other sponsor is
forthcoming, the 2012 SUP Triple Crown may have to be modified to accommodate
economic shortfall. The following are the options being explored:
1‐ Scale down to (2) races: Maliko to Kahului & Honolua Bay to Molokai
2‐ Keep one race leg: Honolua Bay to Molokai.
Finally, understand the scale of the event will also be impacted as a result of
finances. These are just some of the things that may be changed:
1) One t‐shirt for all three events,
2) No prize money or small prize money, depending on sponsorship &
competitors entries, and
3) One awards party with food & beverages at the last race only.
One thing is for sure, we will not scale down the aloha and Hawaiian flavor of the
event.
