I am lookkng for a long/large (thruster) central fin for my fanatic allwave (2022).
The original one 5" is too short for me
Anyone has an idea where to find such? Or adpator to another one?
Thanks
You cannot. Thruster boxes and fin tabs are not strong for the leverage of bigger fins, so you wont find much deeper production fins.
What you can do however is:
- Adapt your technique. 5" should be enough. Are you properly rolling the board in turns to use the rail? Is your rear foot far back enough (over the fins)?
- Use a fin with more cord length rather than more depth. A symmetrical keel, a C-Drive, a S-Wing, ...
- Use a fin with its area positioned farther back. It will increase the drive.
Thank you!
What is a more cord length?
Where will i find it such one for increased drive?
My main reason is that i dont want to switch the paddling sides too often to keep a straight line.
Tnx
That comes down a bit to technique and the outline of the board.
Chord means length of the fin at the base. C drive fins have a long chord. For example: www.surfnvs.com/products/c-drive-thrusters-apex
Or, you could take your board to a board repairer and get a longboard fin box fitted. Probably cost about $120. Easy to do. Then you can use a longboard fin (up to 11" long) or use a 7-8" fin with some small side fins...
If you want a easy to paddle straight board... a longboard style SUP with a big centre fin will go the straightest...
Thank you
i guess replacing the box is an option i will look for
Is there an adpator from the long board fins to the allwave?
Btw what is the name of the allwave fin box type?

As far as I know, all waves have 'futures' fin boxes.
You can't make a futures fin box take a longboard fin - they are not made for it. You would need a board repairer to take it out and replace with a longboard fin box. Then a longboard fin would work.
I guess the question to ask is: is it worth it? 99% of people would say no. Most would say work on paddle technique first. Or buy a longboard style sup if paddling straight is your main concern. What makes the board turn as you paddle is what helps make it easier to turn when on a wave.
Well you are somewhat right.
I bought it as paddle board. Didnt know (seller didnt say) this will be so different because of the center fin.
Now i can either sell it and take a long board or try to see how it behaves with a thruster fin set.
It is a risk....
Thanks for everyone helping here!

Fins would not help you for this. You need to enhance your paddling technique.

Otherwise the only solution is a (much) longer board, as Hoppo3228 said.
What clown at Fanatic decided to replace the centre box? Its a entry level / crossover from flat water to waves so it needs simple (US box / longboard box) in centre. All the technique lessons in the world are great but its a entry level wave board so the ability to put a 20-25cm ish (and cheap!!) old windsurf fin in it or similar was always a bonus.

Indeed a miss. I will teach them a lesson ??
Will get the US box housing and see if a professional fixer can put it in.
Thanks to all here!
Just try to paddle with your paddle vertical and see the difference by this simple change. No need for a bigger fin.
