Apparently nominations opened last week for the various state committees. No mention when the elections happen.

here is something for the likes of SUPA and kiakaha to think about....how many here on Seabreeze, that are responding to these threads actually compete at a state or national level, or are good enough to??? I know I am NOT...not in surf or race. Surf would be a waste of the comps time if I went in and well race im interested but only as fun in the surf, so no need for the state or national stuff (at which i would place last anyway).....food for thought regarding the responses I guess

I think your giving a bit to much weight to seebreze posters , we are only a small voice in the wilderness , the sup world doesent revolve around this site or its members opinoins.I go in as many comps as possible and im a kook , why cause its fun.! and i like to hang around with people that share a common interest. If this supa crowd put on more events and more people participate all the more fun for meI get he impression from some posters here that if you make a buck out of sup , your doing something bad! Please spare me! One more point an organization rooted in short boarding and longoarding will never have sup as a priority , simple as that.

Well said who cares who runs it what they ride or who they work for. They are putting on an event for SUPPERS get off your arse's go in them have fun and support our sport. If they make money good luck to them.
Having been in comps run by long boards we are always an after thought and given the ****test conditions to surf bring on some stand alone comps.

i'm still trying to get my head around why standup paddle surfing needs to have any comps. isn't it suppose to be something you do when the waves aren't good enough for the other boards.

You're selling SUPA and every poster on this forum a little short right there. Everyone here is more than capable of competing at a SUPA state titles event given that they are planning a race event with the following description:

"The flat water short course race offers an opportunity for people to compete without requiring super athletic skills. This is similar to Sydney's famous city to surf fun run that attracts novices to the elite professionals."

Surely we are at least novices.

The ugly SUPA and Surfing Australia saga continues. So many opinions but no real facts and no comments from the two organisations at the heart of this. Has anyone bothered to ask them whats going on?

Then we have the vested interest and pimping argument. Same **** different topic. When will this all end!

Break it down to its most simple form. Is it a comp for the SUP community to come together and have a bit of fun while competing? Bloody oath!

did i say it was a joke, i'm more interested in the big board stuff, i was asked to be involved and help out. i give my time to do that when i could be doing something else like dw ing( funny, its always seems to be blowing a gale when it a surf comp day).

the above is just a thought, however i easily accept people want to surf sup comps

hahaha the first part is exactly what I was saying.....my point was, of the people here, myself included, jumping up and down and posting their opinions, how many compete??? so for all the talk, what effect will it actually have for the likes of the comps, who ever runs them

great that you are enjoying it, Im not sure if you mean at a club level or higher, but I was more so referring to the state and nationals, as that seems to be where the debate lies....

I hope there are some more races like Kirra last year. Not sure Id have the fitness to finish 4 laps, but the whole aspect being in the Surf was fun (I did the AM 2 laps)

while I admit you are very good at the whole debate, internet, english langauge thing.....you have purposely redirected the point of the debate, which at the crux, is the State and national SUP surfing comps.......Im NO WAY capable of being near that, and without offence, Im sure others arnt also.

I get what you're saying but I also get the feeling that SUPA has a slightly different view of the events they want to run being more inclusive, which is commendable. I vaguely recall someone suggesting one of the reasons this alternate series is happening is because of low numbers at state and national titles. But I'm certainly not in any position to speak for SUPA so let's leave it to them to clarify.

am I stuck in Groundhog day???

wasn't this already thrashed out here...www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/SUPA-OR-SURFING-AUS/

oh and here...www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/SUPA-NSW-and-Australian-Titles/

**s getting tired and boring. While the sports gets off the ground these groups will come and go, what remains will end up being the structure and that will be that. Eventually those that aren't good for the sport will disappear as clubs and governing bodies cant function without members.

Just want to vent something since this is a forum.

Judges are always going to be written off no matter what organisation runs sup evnts or surfing events regardless.

from a nsw point of view the judging has been good. Same with when Ive gone away to compete, the judge's have been pretty correct.

Some crew spewed about Josh winning the first ever aus title but he showed "everyone" up. Same with JC winning the second one and so on.

I dont personally see how this new involement in sup is going to be any different but if someone is going to give SUP a go then they have my full support so Ill be going to the NSW event.

But leaving a professional organisation like Surfing Aus is a big decision.

Good luck anyway.

great post appsy i agree. The way the contests have been run up to now have been unreal. great judges very professional .This new body has a huge task to match the system that is already in place.

For sure Judges are going to get grilled on what ever goes on but would you rather get judged by actual SUP judgers who do the sport!!

No one said anything about leaving Surfing Australia. Surfing QLD do a couple of great events. The XCEL Paddle board Race from Snapper to Currumbin - this would have to be one of the biggest races on the calendar for SUP. Surfing QLD also started the Honolua Surf Co SUP Challenge which ran for a couple of years then changed names and Roar had it last year but it never run this year.

I personally will still be attending the XCEL Race (might change name next year) as long as it runs.

No I wouldn't like to be judged by SUP surfers unless they are accredited judges.

I agree with Appsy as well and will be competing at the SUPA NSW event in 2 weeks but am dubious about the judging to be honest. The judging and computerised scoring system at the Surfing NSW/Aust events is world class. Compare it to the farce that was the Huntington event where you couldn't even find out the results.

And Lacey, there are heaps of people who like SUP surfing contents, we get 30+ to our local Sydney club events every 2 months!

Good luck to SUPA though - I will be supporting their events as well as Surfing NSW/Aust. The age divisions will be very popular

Goatman - you are gunna need to sit down for this -
I completely agree wirh you on this. And I will go further to say that I would rather be judged by a "qualified surfing aust" judge from any surfing discipline than any "sup surfer" who is not "qualified" - no matter how good a sup surfer they are. Lets face it, sup surfing is 95% 'surfing' and I believe should be judged accordingly.
