Is this a cheap price for a Go Pro Hero 3 Black Edition, $354 including surf mount?

Hi and welcome to the Breeze.

I'm no expert but from what I understand is all that extra cost that you pay to get the black gives you a super duper slo-mo and the Wi-Fi stuff.

The Silver does super slow-mo already.. Maybe not super 'duper' but still super.. The extra slowness will really chew into your memory card and take so much longer to download and upload.. and as far as the Wi-Fi goes.. Myself and friends have it and never use it.. With the extra hassles of the set up and charging the three parts and then trusting that it is recording is not worth it IMO.. If you're going to look close enough to check that it's recording you might as well just push the button and you will know for sure that all is working.

I guess if money was not a problem I would buy the black but for most people I think the silver is the best option.. and you can buy a few more acceories with the money you've saved..

$354 is a good price. Normally they're $400.

I bought my Black edition from here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281131866924?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

DJ is correct that you don't need the extra stuff that the black gives you. I bought a black for the wifi remote so I can operate the camera remotely on my paraglider. I doubt that I will actually use it ... but I can , and it's only $50 difference by the time you hunt down a cheap price.

or even pick up an old go pro 2 - which has similar performance to the silver - but at a really good price!

i use a black myself but i have all the post production knowledge , hardware and software to be able to leverage its extra performance

My go pro black is currently bolted underneath a quadcopter with a super duper stabilising gimbal attached - it lives there permanently.

most people dont have access to all that stuff as its thousands and thousands of dollars worth of software and hardware.

Dont forget to use it heaps as a timelapse camera - ou can get some great results really easily.

Agree with DJ, the WiFi and remote control are unreliable, and the WiFi generates extra heat inside the waterproof shell and is therefore more likely to cause fogging. Having said that, if anyone wants to buy a remote and 2x WiFi's...

Hi DJ. How do those Go Pro's attach to your board??..Is it by glue or sticker?...and can you change the mounting positions easily?..I've learnt a lot from your feedback already...and some other crew as well....and thanks for info on the PFD's for down winding. It works well and is a lot safer, especially with the pockets to carry GPS, munchie bars, and the pocket to carry the camel back, and not to mention the phone to organise a lift home!....

Thanks.. There are many ways to do it but imo the simplest, cheapest, and easiest way is to use the square black plastic mount that the camera comes mounted on in the pckaging and just duct tape that to your board.. See my friend Bruce's set up in the first few seconds of this vid.

DJ, that "no paddling downwinder" vid. looked sick..what size board were you riding???? It looked like a Naish... and how strong was the wind that day??..25-30 knots?..I'll have to get a proper down winder board to get the most out of it. I've only ever used my "family wagon" 11'2" JL Blend, and thought that was good. Man you were getting some long rides. I do 14kms in 1 hour 45...that'll probably be 1 hour on a proper down wind board I imagine...Great Vid's..good stacks too ...

Thanks.. Yes it's the Naish 14' Glide.

Yes 25-30.. and yes you will notice a HUGE difference with a 14' DW board compared to your 11'2'' surf shape board.. 14klms in about 1hr is do'able.

If you liked that no paddling DW vid you should like this even better.. It's the same day but a different edit.. and at normal speed.
