So I finally got a chance to come back to Noosa with my Mana and have a good long paddle around the sound and from the main beach to Tea Tree Bay. Yesterday was the best of the week, low wind, perfect sunshine and we were on the water bottle 6.45am and no one in sight, perfection.
Later that morning I paddled across to the groin and thought maybe I can catch my first wave standing on p, I was a knee boarder for years!! I am proud to say after catching one on my knees so I could figure out how to angle the board to catch a wave and secondly how a 10 ft board acts on a wave, I caught one standing up for more than a fleeting moment.
So

at the age of 55 I can now say I have learnt to surf standing up, yeah!!! Yes I know I am kneeling on this shot but my GoPro died just before I caught the next wave and I was standing.

Tucking in and grabbing rail on a 10'0 Mana is no easy feat.

Stoked and thanks for sharing your stoke.

This is what its all about.

I think it went well I just had to get use to so much board. When I was surfing 25 years ago my board was 5,10 so 10ft is a totally different way of doing everything. I missed so many ops until I figured out how to position myself and how hard to paddle.

Good move . .no need going half measures .I bought a 12.5 glide ,6 months later sold it and brought a 14 Javelin ,I entered another world .
fantastic for catching small swell ,and DW.

As an ex knee boarder myself I would query the supposition that knee boarders are not surfers ???
