For the starboard experts. I currently have a 2019 starboard all star carbon 14 x 24.5. I want to upgrade to something with water drainage and deeper cockpit. The 2021 (side drainage) and 2023 (bottom drainage) Allstars have double concave bottoms. What do you think about those in stability and handling differences compared to my traditional concave 2019.?
I think going from a 2019 24.5 to a 2021 24.5" you'll feel that you have a bit less primary stability as you are moving from a concave hull to a convex hull but this will be compensated by the dugout. I have 2021 Allstar 24.5" and I initially found it a bit tippy but I'd come down from a 2019 28" ( which had a concave hull and was like a battleship). The 2020 Allstar has the same convex hull as the 2021 but without a dugout and from all accounts was a hand full!! The convex hull on the 2020-2023 model are definitely quicker than the concave, but you need to be stable to get the power the down, which the dugout providesI've just upgraded to a 2023 Allstar 24.5" and find it has a bit more stability than the 2021 (which I was after as was a bit tenuous taking the 2021 on ocean for Downwinding) and also the holes in the base of the deck allow deck to clear a lot better than the 2021. It's supposedly a bit quicker on Flatwater because of pulled in nose and flatter rocker, but yet to do a comparisonoverall the 2021-2023 models are great all round boards and are pretty quick even on flat water. I love the versatility of them.
