These pics will be published in mags , all I have done here is shared them first on this site before you have to buy mag in a few months time to see them. I won't make that mistake again.

Pretty common place for photographers to do this remember Billy Watsons Epic Shack shot down South at the super super secret spot , it was all a major feature in our local rag and it was then featured in heaps of surf mags worldwide.

It only took me a few hours to get the location for that place , if it hadn't had been for that shot I would never have known about it and thats where I totally agree with Rod's point.

Sorry Lacey no vid.

Rob

that's a shame. i liked the photo's myself.

photo's of one self- is it- self promotion only, self promotion of the unsponsered to get sponsered, exposure for sponser- part of the job of being sponsered to get exposure for the sponser, self promotion for ones own product/business

i don't get/do photo's of myself for myself to post on forums, probably look like a dork anyway. sure i think it's egotistical to post photo's of ones self, but i don't have a problem with it

FM a guy takes a few shots and shares his stoke only for the topic to turn into a sh-tfight.How about everyone stop posting photos and see how boring this forum would be,happy now

Agree 100% Mac,
I hold heaps more value for pics and vid when compared to the often repeated written comments that can all be found with a simple search,
would also say some of the comments are just as much a stroke of the ego [no accountability behind the keyboard] as any pic or vid.
Can't see one getting to much self promotion here on such a small specific interest forum but agree with you Lacey that people that posted vid here previously no longer do after being made to feel unwelcome by doing so,
anyway thanks for posting Piros ,enjoyed it.

Hey Rob, half your luck on some decent waves. Port Stephens had great size and conditions, but it was a very very straight south swell and it was just one closeout after the other for both days. The tears were flowing from the Bomb (Birubi One Mile Beach) SUP crew. We have a Bombie we are eyeing off but Mums the word.......

guys, i wasn't having a dig at rob. only commenting on the subject of self photo's that was posted in the thread. as i said i wouldn't do it, but have absolutely no problem with others doing so. besides rob posted shots of others surfing which are of a high class. please keep them coming

in regards to any wave being a secret on the goldie- don't make me laugh.

nobody owns a wave, if it gets crowded- bad luck. thats life

Sorry "baldrick" but it is a casual paddle (I continue to due so some 20 years after my first surf there)

Nice one Solo, i was trying to discourage the general internet gumby hoard from inundating the place and you suggest that it is a piece of p1ss.

Love your work.

Well that was interesting...

Maybe I didn't express myself well enough, funny though how some conjured up things I never stated and/or some misunderstood my intentions.

For those of you who are unaware, I know Rob, Rod, Roscoe, Ronny and Brad, and I am stoked they were out there getting amongst it. Couldn't be happier for them, photo's or no photo's they are all great guys.

Rob, I know the cam runs past there but I have yet to see it show any detail other than the amount of whitewash assuming the pan occurs during or just after a set.
As for the Ch. 9 chopper shots, the usual offending cameraman is a serial pest. Funny thing is he still hasn't worked out that chopper shots from anything above 50' or so in small waves look like crap. Not sure how he still has a job.
As far as those at TOS or the hoards on the shore, no problem, they can't see much from there, and if they were interested enough they wouldn't be surfing TOS or watching from the south wall.
Rob, did you guys speak to the Jet Skiers that were out there causing problems and inform them that they were breaking the law, or catch them on camera and notify the relevant authorities? Because by the problem won't disappear by it self. The politicians and general public see no difference between towing and free-styling and I would hate for any of us not to be able to foil or tow because no one was proactive in stopping a bunch of retards from doing the wrong thing (like the retard towing in without a lifejacket. Irrelevant of how small it is, it is the law and reflects badly on anyone who tows). Just like when we see someone doing the wrong thing on a stand-up in any line up, pull them aside, have a chat and if they continue, well they were warned and there are ways of making their session unpleasant by returning the favour.

I am not against people going out there or anywhere and I don't begrudge or want to 'discourage' the posting of photo's or videos, sorry if I came across as a fool or someone looking to start a 'sh-tfight'. I would have preferred a little more discretion in the naming (unlike someone else did for another) and maybe choose better camera angles than some shown, as there are plenty of 'Bombies' on the East Coast where this could have been, had not the high rises formed the backdrop.

I enjoy looking at other guys shots and videos the same as anybody, bring it on there should be more of it, but that was not my point.

I never stated that it was a 'secret spot' and not sure where that came from. Weird.

As for claiming rights or owning a spot, I never claimed that either or implied it. That person obviously doesn't know me and not sure where they pulled that one from.

As far as 'no accountability behind a keyboard', then I am confused, I thought this was a forum. If you still have trouble understanding that I am not trying to 'stroke' my 'ego' (just express a point of view), maybe we should catch up for a chat and go for a surf some day. I am by no means a great surfer and have nothing to prove.

For those who understood where I am coming from, thanks for reading the lines not between them.

It was a Saturday and the first day of school holidays and its on the Gold Coast smack bang in the middle of one of Australia's busiest waterways and its 2 minutes up the road from "Surfers Paradise" and "Seaworld"...... We should get the Meter Maids to police it!
PS, looked fun compared to the straight inconsistent closeouts on the rest of the coast! Stoked someone scored!

Rod after thinking about this last night I understand more where you are coming from.

Re the jet skiers I rang the cops when things started to get very dangerous about the free riders they cleared them out and I had a chat to them after session , the biggest problem for them getting in there to flush out the rats all they could do is ride shot gun and hope people shyed off.

Really the only way to control this is for a ban on wave jumping 1km from the seaway same needs to happen at Currumbin.

For those that do not know Rod he has surfed the outer reefs breaks right up and down the coast more times than anyone I know to top it off he often does it solo and he doesn't own a boat or jetski.

Sweet pics Rob, keep em coming!! Looked like a real fun session.

We had a few guys on jet skis at a spot we surfed Sat morning - they were there to tow the guys back to the line up as opposed to towing in. Real pain in the arse, one even dropped in on me and I had to ride in his smoke filled wake.

After I snapped my board, I had to sit in the channel for about half an hour and nearly got run over a few times[}:)] There was some sweet bomby waves down this way over the weekend as well.

The waves really shift and come in fat so no chance to paddle in on the shorty tow is the only option. Wetsuit.... it was cold early plus a wetty gives you heaps more bouyancy and impact protection.

Not to jump to the defence of the tow crews but they only got a photo when they crossed my path , I was following the Sups in my boat , I saw the tow crews catch plenty of big bombs out of lens range.

Where did you surf on Saturday Legion ?

Jet ski's are anti surfing and secret spots are childish.

I don't care what anyone thinks. that's my opinion.

My flame suit is zipped tightly up and I don't give a toss what many of you bald over 40's wanabees think anyway.

Good stuff on the SUP's!
Soft work towing... Just pull out a fun gun, and paddle in. Anyone in Hawaii would be likely to laugh at towing into that...
I thought you couldn't tow if there was at least 1 prone surfer... or is that NSW... but there was SUP's instead of prone... ???????
The tow vehicle pilot looks like he would last about 7.5 seconds on decent hold down....

The 7.5 second guy has never been on this forum before or any for that matter, but after being directed to take a look after Rob's posting, I was surprised to see some of the comments and decided to "put my bit in" so I signed up and didn't have to look far to work out a name for myself !! Simon does what ????? The 7.5 second guy says to you to conduct your self in a respectful and educated manner, and if one was to comment on another then one should know who and what he was talking about and the circumstances that the comments relate to.
Good on you rod for saying your peace and good on you piros for getting out there in your boat and doing what you do and good on Rossco and Clarkey for having a bloody good crack. The swell was nothing special but its been awhile since we all have been out there and it was better than the sideshow a few kms north which has resulted the way that Rod has described.
My respect to all and enjoy !!

Sorry to hear about the board again

Have had so many experiences like you have described with jetskis Hope some of them take some of the thoughts on this thread on board. Rather than just saying we are whining which is a easy defence.

No probs with the photos Piros they rock as always Do not think the anti jetski comments in any way reflect on your work.

You'ld be fine Cammo, advanced hair markets primarily to jet skiers. After many years of research, they've worked out that people inclined to buy a jet ski are:

a: unable to surf without assistance,
b: quite worried about their image in the community.
c: have the money to throw away on hair loss remedy's that don't work

Yeah Yeah

Most people see to bag the sport they can't afford or don't have the skill to do.

Why is surf politics so vitriolic??

Being at one with the ocean should make you calm regardless of what craft you choose. If it doesn't, then maybe you should try another sport.

(I shortboard, longboard, SUP, Kite and if I had the money I would tow-in too)

I can never understand the anger in the waves.

I sometimes even admire the skill of bodyboarders and goatboaters

when surf, i surf for myself. 90% for skis, whether they are mucking around or towing in surfing area's with surfers in the water, are doing it to be seen, problem is, they don't realize they are not welcomed. they make a mess of the linup and it's dangerous. just check um out at the spit or the alley - out and out attention seekers.

i'll never forget a crew running up and down the alley right through the guts of the lineup on a 3' day earlier this year. i dived into the water on one pass- way too close with the rope

i agree with oliver- jet skis anywhere near other people is anti surf imo

Very funny Brad... Hey Oliver the black ski in the pics was mine my mate was running saftey for us , needless to say we cop plenty on the head if we don't make the take off or it shuts down , my best for the day was 6 directs hits with a barge tied to my leg let me tell you are bloody happy to see that ski drag you out before number 7 lands on you. We go through leg ropes like dental floss on a day like that and my board ended up 500m away on my first failure.

But you are always welcome to come out and show how it's done without a ski.
