Hi Guys
I was just interested what Garmin GPS product poeple are using for SUP training/racing. The Garmin Edge 800 looks great with a big screen and is rated water proof (within 1m) - it looks like it could be mounted on the board in front of your feet to read speed, time and distance.
Is anyone using a reliable device and have any thoughts?
Cheers
Greg
Happy to recommend the new Garmin Forerunner 910XT. My girl surprised me with one the other day. Its waterproof, has a heart monitor and can be used for a number of different sports. When you upload it to the Garmin website it allows you to choose SUP. Im loving it
Timex make a watch style GPS as well which I have been using for about 2 years now.
I find it works well and is easy to use.
I've had the Garmin 310XT for a few years now and it's pretty good.
The 910XT is similar, but its a new model with more features/options.
Both would be good options - have a look through the forum archives - i remember there was a lot of discussion about these devices late last year.
As far as i'm aware, these are the only two Garmin's with IPX8 rating (full water resistant rating to 50m) as opposed to their other products which are rated at IPX7 (water resistant for up to 30min at up to 1m depth).
I've got the garmin 310xt and for what you need it's perfect ..... plus your save some $$$$$$$$ compared to the 910xt![]()

910 says water resistant to 50m. My son asked me what happened if I was below 50m under the water. I seem to remember I said something like 'seeing I don't scuba dive I reckon I wouldn't be worried about the watch if I was that far under the water' :)
I have the 310xt and it ticks all the boxes for me. Word of warning if not buying directly from Garmin or a Garmin dealer i.e. eBay or online check their warranty as Garmin won't touch anything not sold by them, without a cost.
