The first event of the Sydney Paddle Surfing Club 2011/2012 season (#3), is on this Sunday, 14 Aug 2011. This will be at Long Reef, starting at 7:30am and we'll set up in front of the lagoon somewhere.
It'll be a great time for those who have been thinking about joining a club to get on board with a refreshed annual pointscore and everybody starting from scratch again.
Beginners, pros, women and children welcome.
Andre (the new catering manager) has promised some tantalizing taste sensations from the free BBQ around lunchtime.
A couple of new things for this season:
- the introduction of a repercharge round in the surfing comp which means everybody now gets to surf at least twice, even if you bomb out in the first round.
- more classes of racing which cater for less experienced racers or people without race boards.

Yeah Casso sounds epic!!!! the long range forecast looks like a cracka of a day small clean waves with little wind and now everyone surfs at least twice so gunna be on!!! Be there with bells on gunna be another great season!!! Yewww
We surfed a nice bank in front of the lugga yesterday so looking good. Keen as mustard, young fella is frothing as well.
Just registered and looking forward to it. Would be great to see some other less experienced guy come down as well ![]()
Two guarenteed rounds, a BOP and kids race at the end. Does it get better than that? Yes it does! Andre is determined to continue to standard of excellence as our new caterer. Sorry big fella - no pressure. I would honestly be happy with with a sausage sanga...BTW forecast looks like fun!![]()

What a great day despite the terrible conditions. It all started well with some distant thunderstorms but some OK little waves and light winds. Then the onshore soueaster hit and brought with it the rain and a lot of chop.
Even with deteriorating conditions, the crew still ripped. The girls put in an awesome effort for their heat and the groms were going off too - with one of them, young Kai Bates, blitzing the entire field and taking the crown.
Open Surfing:
1 - Kai Bates (riding for Walk on Water and One Liquid SUP Clothing)
2 - Andrew "Casso" Cassidy (riding for Walk on Water and One Liquid SUP Clothing)
3 - John "Goatman" Christensen (riding for DTM Custom SUP)
4 - Dan "DTM" Cleary (riding for DTM Custom SUP)
5 - Steve Morrison
6 - John "JB" Messenger (riding for Fanatic and ION)
Elite Race:
1 - Andy Davies (riding for Naish)
2 - Steve Morrison
3 - Sam "WindSurfnSnow" Parker (riding for WindSurfnSnow)
Women's Race:
1 - Di Morrison
2 - Elyse Comerford (riding for C4 Waterman)
3 - Jen Milton
4 - Sue Corne
Kid's Race:
1 - Kirra Kissane
Non-Raceboard Race:
1 - Simon Birch
2 - Dan Cleary (disqualified due to cheating)
Another awesome event, thanks to everyone.
Today I judged some of the most competitive heats I have seen especially considering the challenging conditions, it's so exciting to see the high level of riding in our club continually growing. And great participation numbers also for a cold rainy winters day, I believe we had 34 competitors today (correct me if I'm wrong).
Well done to Kai, a well deserved win mate.

BTW, went to the doctor on the home, looks like I've fractured some ribs.
It was a real high quality final. I didn't see the scoresheets but any one of the top 3 could of won it. Kai was outstanding the whole the way through. Hard to believe these guys can surf so well in conditions you would not normally go out in...
BTW - unless Naish have changed their colours to red, I think Andy was on a Fanatic but I could be wrong
. Aft a crap start, he flew through the field for an awesome win!
Great comp guys, congrats to Kai, awesome win mate.
Sorry I had to leave but as I mentioned to some of you my little bloke ran straight from his heat to an AFL match where he colided taking a mark, got carried off the field and straight to Manly emergency. Fortunately nothing broken just a real bad cork which will put him out for a couple of weeks.
yea a big thanks from me had a great day but can someone bring a heater next time, and no i wont wear a wettie![]()
Sounds like an awesome day guys!
Except maybe for the broken ribs JB?
And I hear there was a girls division in the surfing???? Results???
Even with the stack, was a great event as usual. They just keep getting better.
BTW, got my results back yesterday, and no physical breaks (might be small small fractures but nothing major) mainly damaged and bruised the muscles between the ribs, but no tears which is good. They still recon 6 weeks, but I think 2 is more realistic!![]()
