What, over 4 useless, whining pages in the shortboard forum?
maybe Laurie can invent a complaints, gripes and useless information forum called Doggie Do Dos and Donts.
Now, get back to work!!![]()
Perhaps a better way to manage the situation would be to set up checkpoints at the entry or jump off point to waves.
Like a police check or something. If you fall under a 5 out of 10 on the Kookometer you must head back to the beach with your pants around your ankles.
No, wait. That's a bad idea. I would have my pants around my ankles every surf.
I reckon we should all get one of those vibrating things you are given at cafeterias when your food is ready. We could all catch waves in order - happy days.
But who has right of way ?![]()
This thread has really had me thinking. I understand all the Us and Them arguments. Like Sort boards, Mal, SUp's and lidders but it really should be more of a simple surf etiquette. I agree also that we may never get there but i think it needs to at least be talked about.
We should all have respect for each other and that means sharing waves, just as much as safety for each other.
Now SBoarders hate sup mostly from what i can tell is there ability to catch more waves, but for me i think its more about safety. As a fellow SUP rider how would you feel if a Sup kook cleaned you up and cut through your leg tendons![]()
Me id be pissed if it was anyone be it SUP, mal or shorty![]()
So for me i think we need to all admit limitations on surf products and skill levels and now when to say this is beyond me..![]()
I surf with loads of Lidders and i take it upon myself to educate these guys all the time. It seems we need to start re teaching surf etiquette from ground up![]()
SUp's should teach other SUp's, and so on through the ranks. Or we will be forced by councils to live by there rules, and who knows what that could mean..
^^ I agree JB but where do you start? By posting stuff on a forum that nobody reads? Yallingup mains has the rules by the path as you walk down but how many people do you see read them?
The biggest rule broken is the snake rule and its not just SUPs as you say, its just about every form of surf craft you can think of.
Just because you can catch every wave dosnt mean you should.
Lots has been written read and cogitated upon. I surfed short boards and was run over by "wave pigs" on Mal's, short boards and other gear. As a newby trying to get waves was difficult enough. Trying to stay out of the way meant even fewer waves.
As a recently converted SUP'er I get more waves and have more fun than on the short board. Yet, short boarders now see you as the enemy.
Could it be the Ole Sheep Farmer/Cow farmer rivalry again?
New kid on the block, something different must be bad ?
Could be.
Basically the wave is a gift, free transient being. Enjoy, share, in a few seconds another is on the way!
No-one has ownership, won't cost to give a few up!
Get a reality check out there and enjoy.
Plenty of room in our coastline.
Try skiing in Europe, they run you down. Chill!
