Not SUP but then not many SUP guys have this sort of experience so well worth a watch if you want to go downwind easier and faster.

Oscar and his brother Herman Chalupsky have got to be 2 of the best downwinders on the planet.

Oscar has won 11 Molokai's now on the surfski. When he paddles you watch, listen and learn...

i had the chance to do a run from rainbow to the alley today so i thought i would try a few things different then i normally do.

as per vid, i slowed the board down to stay in the crest of the swell- mainly by loading/rocking my weight back a bit.

the runs were longer and blow me away if 8 out of 10 times a trough would appear in front of my board as i was hanging back.

normally i go like a blue assed fly to try and chase down the runner in front or left and right if i think its on.

i was pretty relaxed, had a lot of energy left towards the end and when i really wanted to go hard to chase i had heaps of gas left

hmmm seemed like a case of less is more, but your timing has to be spot on.
i will be definately be doing some more work on this

cheers

Funny you say that Lacey! I saw that video about two months ago and I swear its changed the way I downwind paddle.

Stay high on the wave and do whatever you can to avoid that real, 'bog down' 'fall off the back' 'dead stop' thing. Staying high seems to give me so much more time to steer down the wave too.

I've watched it about 20 times and I'm still not sick of it
