Hi everyone, a weeks holiday started for me today and as has been the case lately the surf forecast is as about as bad as it gets 
Plenty of swell, and howling onshores to match, if the forecast is correct I might manage a day or two in the surf at best.
So this morning my son who is a builder had some free time too, came around and we nocked up some SUP storage racks in our garage. Took around an hour or so, having someone(not me) who knows what they are doing and the right tools makes life so much easier
It all seems to work now I just need to give a coat of paint, per wife's instruction 
and stick some marine carpet on the support arms and it done.
Its made the good wife happy to have the space tidied up and its going to make my life easier too.
Now to see if I actually get a chance to use it this week Have a great weekend all.

Hi everyone, after missing out again this morning surf wise, I at least painted (as per the good wife) my new SUP rack. For some reason my wife did not take to green treated timber in her garage. So a few coats of black paint and now all that's left to do is to glue on the strips of marine carpet tomorrow.
My sons idea of cutting the ends of the timber on the angle has these arms tight against the wall and no real chance of dropping over time under the weight of the boards. If need we can add a bolt into the brick pier, however these are very solid at the moment.

Good job, got me thinking of how to do it under my place.
My board racks. The rods are about $8.00 each at Bunnings and I just fixed them on the angle where they fitted on the boards. I did it this way as the garage is fairly narrow.

I've noticed that people have stored their boards horizontally 3 different ways: deck side up, deck side down, or on the rails. What are the pros and cons of each method?
I discovered an option on Amazon that works great for our 14' downwind boards. I bought a pulley system that allows the two boards to be stacked on top of each other and hoisted by straps up against the ceiling of the garage just to the side of where the garage door rolls up. When I want to paddle, I move the car to that side of the garage and lower the two boards straight down onto the roof racks. When I get home, I throw the straps around the noses and tails and haul them back up to the ceiling where they don't take up any wall or floor space. The pulley system makes it relatively easy for one person to hoist up two 30 lb boards.

My thoughts are.. if it was a dusty place I'd have my boards deck side down to avoid dirt/dust building up on the deck pad and besides the bottom of the board can be more easily dusted off.. The down side to that is possible dents in the deck pad from resting on the support bars.. On the rails works best for limited space because the boards don't stick out as far.. I don't think there's any wrong or right way it's just what works best for your situation..

Hi mate, well obviously fins up is the correct way, why else would I do it that way
I don't think it makes too much of a difference, it's just the way I put the boards on the roof of the car. Also I find it easy to use the boards carry handle picking them up this way.
