A great video from our friends at Distressed Mullet.
That didnt look like FUN at all - it looked ALL TIME. For all the carnage it looked like a high percentage were getting through (with a few bumps and bruises) although a few zimmer frames might need to be left in the car park :-)
Hope Currumbin can dish up the same next weekend!
How's the guys hitting the rocks, ouch. That video was pretty damned funny. I think I would grab an inflatable ![]()
I don't know what on earth is happening in this video but it is wonderfully crazy.....just posted it on my facebook page under the heading "stand up paddle boarders go crazy on magic mushrooms" lol
It looks to me that helmets are about to become compulsary in this sort of event and maybe even pink tops? Last thing SUP needs is a run of fatalities like has plauged Surf Lifesaving?
what.....people are having too much fun? You need extra rules and regulations? Let them go for it.......even anarchy and chaos probably develop their own kind of harmony :)
Classic vid SurferShane! Yeah that is carnage!
Not sure why it is not coming up embedded in your thread.
Great find Towny. Great to here an apology and explanation. Noticeable lack of board sponsor logo's?
hmmm not sure if i buy that explanation. All four riders where going left on that wave, Danny only straightened out after Connor turned into Kai and Kai was simply holding the same line as Danny on his inside and was giving plenty of room. If Connor had done the same there would have been no contact. The rest is history.
Risky move to come out and comment like he did - if I was Kai, I'd let bygones be bygones.

I just don't think it matters any more who was naughty first. Everyone accepts that Connor's final cutback was unacceptable and everyone accepts that Kai's grabbing the handle was bad form. Neither response was an appropriate reaction to the provocation leading up.
love how his shirt switches color from blue to green through the whole interview...
pretty fair comments - great to see some hard racing going down.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up for me too, PT.
When there are so few rules in this sort of racing it was only a matter of time before **** like this was going to happen. It's a wake-up call to our sport to nip this in the bud before we see a repeat of it.
The acknowledgement in that he crossed the line is good. The trying to justify his actions was not so smart.
He could do with a lesson in how to apologise. He probably should not even have mentioned Kai's actions, and certainly not say that what Kai did was worse than what he did. He came across as a bit too focused on Kai, and gives the impression that this saga is going to continue, and he is just paying lip service. He needs to concentrate on winning the race rather than beating Kai. This will bring them both down otherwise. Sheesh, did Kai sleep with his sister or something?? Let it go...

This is racing, rubbing is racing, tracing paint is racing, its been that way for well over a hundred years in all forms of racing.
It will happen again, and most people who understand racing will have no problem with it.
If somebody takes an obvious swing at a competitor with a paddle, they will be DQ'ed, other than that, let them race.

Rubbing is one thing, but intentionally taking someone out is another altogether and both Kai and Connor are guilty of that. There's no place for that in this sport.

It seems pretty clear to me he was compelled to make that statement. Given how much finger pointing he did at Kai, I wouldn't be surprised if this rears its head again.
For the sake of the sport I hope it doesn't.
I think Danny would be on a 404.
which is Riviera, is it not?
Don't think so... Is it?
Riviera and 404 have their own race teams. Danny is not listed as a rider on Rivieras site.

TBH, not sure now, but for some reason I thought they were affiliated. I just looked at both sites and only evidence I can see (and its a stretch) is Riviera have quite a few second hand 404 boards, and most of them have a Riviera logo on the tail???
Danny did his world record on a 404. I always thought that 404 was Danny's personal label out of Riviera
www.supracer.com/danny-ching-world-record/
After seeing that video, I think it gives a misconception of what bop racing is all about, skillful racing in and out of surf, what I see there is the image of sup being cemented with the words gladiator kook written all over it. Something I find disturbing is the appeal of laughing at other peoples hurt, shame if that is the direction this type of racing is moving to in the future....
Pretty sure Riviera and 404 parted ways last year. Riviera has a few 404 boards to sell off but they are doing their own RP race boards for this past season.
