Hi,

we are hesitating in booking a trip to Sal this april.
Except Ponta Preta, there are not a lot of infos on the surf spots on this island. I am checking since 10 days the webcam of Ponta Preta and no waves at all - althought the whole atlantic is burning and the Canaries are huge...
Did anybody already visit Sal and can tell me if there are other spots which get more swell than Ponta Preta?
For any tip or footage and photos, thanks already now.

I was in Cabo Verde on holidays during in January a few years ago. My hotel was right next to Ponta Preta and it was absolutly firing! One of the best surf breaks I've seen, and it amazes me how litle crowd it has. And Airton Cozzalino was putting on a show. Just like on the videos you see on Instagram or Facebook. The wave is a point break and breaks really close to the rock, and it's actually easier if it's bigger (breaks a bit further out). Just next to Ponta Preta there was an amazing left (it's almost the same break, kinda of Pipeline/Backdoor), big and hollow, but there was no one out (although I've seen lots of videos of guys surfing there).
After Ponta Preta, you have the small city of Praia, and there's a mellow and easy wave there near the harbour, but it's more crowded.

I was with my family so I didn't drove around, but there were more spots (I remember Monte Le?o). I think that in Boavista there are some very good waves. And if you're a wingfoiler or kite surfer, the place is amazing!

There's breaks at lion mountain, but you need to get taxis to get there, but these are cheap. You'd have to look out for estate cars and trucks with a SUP. I was renting prone boards from local shops. Not sure about heading further North as heard there might be a few, not so nice, people about?

I've only been in November for 4 x holidays, when winds are consistently offshore at Ponta Preta and good waves most days.

April is getting a bit into summer swell time, so guessing it might not fire as much?
