There was a suggestion from Redfezz in the New SUP Foiling Category! thread that we have Laurie create a new Downwind Sub Forum. Just to be clear, that's for SUP Downwinders only, not racing as well.
Who is willing to commit to posting more pics, videos and news from their downwind runs to make this new category worthwhile? I'm sure we wouldn't need to twist DJ's arm.
Really are you kidding , Sup is Sup , still water , racing , down winding or surfing. Foiling dropped out of the box and started to take over a very helpful forum , it needed to be shifted. Best part about Stand Up Paddle boarding is sharing the stoke and that's what Seabreeze is all about. Why do you need a separate category to share this. Post away champion......

To each his own and you are so very free to have your own opinion on the matter of course, but I'm not sure why you're being so nasty about it. ![]()
I don't DW but some good points for and against, having categories makes it a lot easier to find what you are looking for though and from an advertising point of view allows retailers to target specific customers on a particular forum.
On the other hand I guess there is a line with sub categories and that will be up for admin to decide, DW is not that removed from surfing SUP, in my opinion Foil was further away from SUP then DW.
I was really keen on the seperate foil section, had admin said it was not going to happen, I would have just gotten on with it.

Have to agree. Great to get the rollerbladers their own forum, but the rest should stay together I believe.
you would be better of calling it 12 & 14 's
I'm on the fence with this one .
only because if you do that ,you should have sup surfing ...TOO ,but no need .
One point I would like to make is that SUP racing has completely disappeared from this forum - people who race have gone elsewhere to discuss their sport presumably because they don't feel a strong enough sense of affinity with flat water cruising, surfing, foiling or down winding when it doesn't involve a race. They're only interested in racing and it seems they don't want everything else so they must go some place where there is only racing. It is the nature of modern media where fragmentation happens organically. As a channel, if you resist that, your audience will desert you and find somewhere else where their specialised interest is catered for.
Good point ...I guess if there is a forum category ..it will grow ....I know myself I go straight to the gear threads.
because I'm interested in new gear and boards .
i sure do enjoy DJ. DW vids. A column full of DW vids way not .
its SUPing and if it does create more interest and get more people into it ...yes
lets keep building the sport .

maybe that's what happened with Street Sup? ![]()

Yeah sorry about that didn't mean to come across mean
what I was saying is people still race and downwind on flat water boards , if you start breaking everything up some people won't even glance at a section they are not interested in and may miss out on a valuable conversation. I'm not that into downwinding but watch the videos as they are generally at top of page when I open the General Sup Forum but if you put that in another section I probably wouldn't click on it. That's my point.....
I would suggest a progressive approach: Be sure to always include the word "Downwind" in the title of the posts about Downwinds. maybe with a convention like "[Downwind] ..."
This way, they will be easier to find, and to see if the amount of posts make a separate section worthwhile. Plus it will ease the work of Laurie to find the threads to move to a new Downwind section if it is created.

I reckon Hilly should get his own forum about being taken out by dolphins while we're at it. Wish you had a beer for every time that video was shared Hilly.

I don't think it was a conscious move on the racings part to desert Sea Breeze. Face Book started to be the media where races were announced and covered. It's easier to advertise races, post photos and share comments on FB than it is on Sea Breeze. You can target and invite the people you want to communicate with much easier on Face Book where Sea Breeze depends on who happens to have a look. FB tends to give immediate feedback and allow more discussion. I was one of the main posters of racing and I haven't been on Seabreeze for months.
I also found that Sea Breeze was being dominated by certain riders pushing one brand in particular over and over again. The interesting general threads to read started to disappear in my opinion and It seemed I had to sort through brand promo's strategically placed before I could find anything to read. In fact that brand could have had their own topic forum.
Having said all of that, Sea Breeze is by far the best avenue to ask for advice on a specific topic and share opinions
So Wave Science I suppose I agree with you. The race guys may have just moved to a media where their specialised interest is catered for. There are plenty of down wind sites on Face Book that are based on locations as well so it's a much smarter way to communicate. Sorry Laurie, I'll check back in another couple of months.
