A very nice video, especially as we can see you using all the length of the board, using even the front rails in turns, which is not common with these square nosed shapes.

Also we can see a couple of takeoffs where the wide nose prevented digging a rial due to some unexpected chop.

89 kegs on a 7-11 x 26-1/8 x 94L board , great effort mate and that's why it turns so well in the pocket. AA was telling me the Balsa in the Sunova give and extra 5% float because of the density of the balsa over the foam . Can you actually feel it ? Nice video BTW ripping.

Yep, you can definitely feel the extra float compared to a standard construction board at the same volume.

My 7'10" Flow is only 91.6L and it floats me OK too.

Casso thats off tap how your paddling that so easy ... Makes me feel slack on my 120L flow at 95 kegs ..

I just can't get past the tail sinking all the time ... I swear I've pretty good balance too from all my skating as a grom...

Of course, this is physically impossible. Float is just the volume less the weight. And Balsa is heavier than foam (160kg/m3 normally, 80kg/m3 for the lightest balsas, compared to the 15 to 25 kg/m3 of the EPS foams)

What can probably happen is that the volume is computed from the software driving the CNC cutting the blank, so do not take into account the added balsa layers? Thus the actual volume of the board would be larger than the one advertised? Balsa would add float because its actual volume would be added to the board on top of the listed volume.

Unless manufacturers are doing displacement tests we're always going to have a variance in volume, there were huge differences in the windsurfing industry in the early days.

Yup. I know for instance that Gong just uses the number outputted by the shaping software. So for the actual volume you should add the glass+paint layers (minimal), the PVC sandwich layer(s) if they exist, and the pad. You could very well end up with 10 liters more on a 9'.

This also means that you can compare volumes of two boards of the same brand reliably, but volume comparison between brands can be tricky....

Over the past six months I have upgraded to 97 kg (not sure why, unless eating the wrongs things in high volume has an effect) and it has made the 120L Flow a little more difficult to surf. Had a few great sessions over the past week but in the chop and wind I have to confess that I frequently sunk a rail and went for a swim. But still love it on a wave!

Sweet, having the non box rear setup kind of limits fin choices IMHO, I have found the shapers stealth large fins to work quite well with the speeed myself or a combo with the shapers s8 extra large (BTW I have no affiliation with any fin company....but I'm available!)
