Reckons it's his best yet. Looks like it surfs ok too. He is not fond of really narrow boards so is looking for a way to make wider boards get on a rail.
Wow, cool Hilly… Thanks for posting this…
A little more insight on these…
The top and bottom boards are two different shapes. Top is the first I ever did with my single hull entry blended into the concave bottom rails. 8-8 x 29-7-16" x 4-3/8" I totally adjusted the rocker to accommodate everything going on and placed the fins a little different from what I normally do to. The board I'm surfing is Tom Carroll's entry design we been working on blended with concave bottom rails, has a single concave in the middle. That one is just such a radical looking board but works insane and nose rides really well even with the nose pulled in. That one is 8-4 x 29-1/2" x 4-3/8". Tom Carroll is frothing to ride a custom like this I will shape for him. Cool thing about both of these designs is you can make the boards shorter or longer and even wider into the 30's and it still rips hard.
Funny story about the second pic. There's a guy a little older than me named Denton Miyamura from here in Hawaii. Denton in the 80's was a top, world class pro surfer on the tour and now he likes to do sup surfing and he surfs amazing. Radical with power. Anyway, he borrowed that board and used it a few times. He called me up so stoked he wanted to buy it. I really didn't want to sell it as it was the first Prototype TC/BC HD2 blend but he got me to sell it to him because he was so stoked on it. I gave him an amount and he showed up and handed me the amount plus $200 dollars more. I was pretty stoked he liked it that much! That was 2 weeks ago. Since then people are finding me that watched him surf it and putting in their orders.
A customer sent me something on that other sup forum site where someone posted the same thing as you did here and of course the responses by some of the usual suspects are negative. Like I claimed to of invented concaves or something.. It's pretty laughable. Some of the responses are from people who ummmm, how would I put it… Never ever turned a sup board hard in their life and will find every reason to try and discredit my designs for whatever reason. I will say this before I get back to work. I created the BLEND of curves and contours in my HD2's to work the way they do and they work incredible. This blend has never been done before. All my customers who surf theirs are stoked and it's making some of us old farts get more radical, carve harder, throw more buckets of water… I'm 50 yrs old and cranking harder turns than I ever have on a sup board. It's definitely not because I'm getting better at surfing because, well, I'm far past my prime surfing ability! It's because my boards are allowing it to become easier and easier to consistently carve hard and smash sections. The way I figure it I only got so many years left to surf hard so I want every session to count. Last week I got a good, lined up wave and I hit it so hard 6 times in a row. All my might full power smashes. When I kicked out I thought I was gonna PASS OUT! Haha!
Thanks for posting this. I glass most of my orders now so I have to get back to laminating etc. Hope good surf heads your way! Aloha, Blane
makes sense if i get it right, bottom of rails are smaller surface area or width, above is wider so has balance to paddle.
interesting.
I have a PSH AA Hull Paddler 9'7" wave board with the chined rails. Incredible board and looks very similar in design as the Tom Carroll boards coming out at the moment. I couldn't be happier with it. It's stable, it carves, it paddles easy, it noserides, it paddles straight, it paddles fast....awesome.
I had three of blanes boards the old 10,6 wish i still had it it was a great board , went like a rocket.the 9.3 ripper and the 12.6.the12.6 surfed unreal for such a big board.
Hmmm bugger might have to go to Hawaii to get one ![]()
Wonder how that will go with the finance committee![]()

Thanks Bro, great design and good insight into evolving SUP designs, love the pics![]()
My PSH 12'6 hull paddler absolutely terrified some people at Makorori Point last weekend......surviving late drops on big powerful waves and developing supersonic speeds as it raced through the line up. Had to explain to one person (the knee boarder) that I wasn't taking off on waves unless I felt everything was feeling good and no one else was in the desired take off direction ![]()

Yeah love Blane's shapes, I paddled a 12'6 Ocean Hull Paddler in Noosa back in October and instantly fell in love with it, wish I could buy a new one.
Blane.... you rock!
You are innovative, passionate and absolutely shred for a kid!
The poser on the other forum is NONE of the above.... he is an insecure man, who is obsessed with spamming his "greatness"
It's very tiring.
On the plus side.... being spammed by him, is sure sign that you have done something really good... and he is threatened by it.
Blane, we need and appreciate people like you, who think outside the box and delve into new designs, to close the gap between stability and ripping.... and share your knowledge, without reservation.
Keep pushing us into the future.... Mahalo
Cracking stuff. Moving away from just getting smaller to the point where the benefits of paddlability are comprised is great for those of us in the real world.
Might be in the market for something new... loved my Hull Ripper, I'm a pretty light guy but could still turn hard on the 9' 7". A high volume board that can still shred? Yep this was the ultimate recon weapon.
Thanks for the input Blane. It's great to get the info straight from the horses mouth
Most people don't actually realise the amount of R&D shapers do, and it's great to get positive feedback about designs and what you are trying to achieve as a shaper/designer.
Keep up the good work.
Nice one Blane,
I'd agree with what you say on the "other" forum as some on it can be pretty negative and I some cases rather unhelpful. I'd say keep up the good work looks like a sound set of ideas to me and as I too am approaching the "50" mark anything that helps a fatter board turn faster and tighter seems like a sound investment to me
Aloha
Spx
Blane,
Aloha from Cape Cod. Your shapes and stoke are da kine!
The clown on the "other forum" was booted from many windsurf forums in the past for doing what he does now.
I have ridden the production TC loose leaf, but at 67 I need something a little wider. The 8'4" would work in a wave pool. LOL!
Will get in touch!
Mahalos,
Cleveland
