November 1st, but I left the wetsuit in the van, so I could ride my 8'11.
The wind was simply too strong, so I kept dropping off the ledge.
they all closed out anyway ![]()

thanks for sharing. This fall felt that a lot -- close-outs galore. gusty to be out there in that in shorts.
Whoa....love that you show us the tougher times too.
That could be an advertisement for the Surf Cap you were wearing.
Tough conditions, tough guy, tough cap.
Now that is some tough love. Those days are so easy to mind surf and then you are out there and they just blow up. But we do love it.
Sometimes it doesn't matter how good you are out the back or what you take on, that shore dump coming back in can really humble you and and make you feel like a goose if you time it wrong!
You did well to avoid that one though, I thought you were about to get smashed!
Good video. Glad to see that I am not the only one who has days like this. Is there an edit of the successful waves that day?

ha ha.... that last wave was the only one I survived the takeoff ![]()
It was almost worse the day before, when I drove 2 hours to a Pointbreak..... it was bigger with 30 mph wind (Pic)
It was so windy and choppy that I couldn't get enough paddle speed and had to go as it was pitching out..... SoloShot slept
I made one long wave in 2.5 hours and got slammed on a lot of late drops.
All in all.... almost 4 hours of getting killed

We know it before we go out and yet we do it anyway. Then after the beating, we do it again. And the only people who understand are the people who do it anyway! Rick, so awesome you share the tough days too! Don't know if beatings are good for you but they are some incredible learning experiences.
Hardcore stuff mate! If its that bg windy I admit defeat and grab the shorty or softboard as I still have that option.
I had one session this winter that scared me a bit, on my own in a rising swell and dropping tide at a reasonably solid beachbreak. Got a real beating and came in, looked at it and thought 'what the hell was I doing out there on the SUP'

ha ha, I say that to myself all the time.
Except I say it while I'm out there ![]()
