I see that Futures sell fin box filler kits in 3/4" and 1/2" sizes. Aus$15 for 2. Anyone use these? I presume there is a market for them, but I'm wondering if anyone would be able to notice the difference.

I have filled for decades the boxes of my boards (Wind then SUP) with strips of foam I cut to wider dims and force in, they stay in place.

But to be honest, I never felt any difference.

I use the fillers on both my SUP and windsurf boards. I honestly don't know if it makes any difference at SUP speeds but on my windsurf boards I can see turbulence coming off the open boxes if I don't have fillers in them.

depends what level you surf at, for most people it's not going to make a difference

I have the same, I use them because I know the theory behind it so I want to limit the extra turbulence what it can create but honestly I don't feel a difference. Maybe my level isn't that good enough to notive it. I also use Colas his method for the US finbox to cover it up.

I put packing tape over the unused fin slots, then I decided it was silly and now I can't get the adhesive residue off (haven't tried that hard), feeling pretty dumb now

Well, given that turbulent flow is what you want to get fast (the reason of the sanded finish on pro boards, not glossy), this may not be actually useful.

For instance, the Quobba fins designer says that basically nothing protuding by less than 4mm from the hull has any noticeable effect, as it is already in a turbulent layer.
