Hi, Anyone done the southern tip of Bribie Is to Scarborough in a north easter, or the reverse in a sou-wester?
What's it like? Is it a good run? Is it different to an open ocean run?
I am just a newbie Down winder with a lot of questions, wanting to learn!
Cheers,
Ken.
Yep, done a down winder from Bribie Is to Caloundra river mouth, it takes about 4 hours, nothing less, waves a small, wind is good until you get to the very end, there is a dead spot for the wind just before the river mouth, head out the back to avoid the dead spot. It was fun but I would rather do a down winder from cotton tree to sunshine beach it has bigger surf and takes about the same time. Oh and forgot to mention I went out in a SE wind. Cheers.

Thanks for the info Mate.
Have you done the other way, from the southern tip of bribie to scarby or D'bay?
That's what I am more interested in.
Ken.
Hi Ken, planning that run myself, Worrim to Scarbs in a NE. Possible using public transport if you have an inflatable, saves having someone drive you. Probably wouldn't try it in a SW, if it swung west you may not get back due to the currents at the mouth of the bay. Also there is bugger all swell due to the wind being offshore. NE only blow till November, after that the southerlies start.
Actually just thinkin', you could probably DW a sou easter from the southern tip of bribie up the passage to Welsby pretty well I expect?

I'd be keen to go along with you if you like?

I would be keen to give this run a go. Although a moderate NE to try first until my skills and fitness improve! I think the Brisbane SUP crew may be interested also. To get a group going, might help to post in their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/groups/brisbanesup/)
Have done the trip twice about 8 years ago. Once on a ski and once on a kayak. Paddled all the way into the canals at newport waters. it is the right direction with ,Plenty of chop and good glides. I have since moved to Nth Qld but travel back every Dec/Jan school holidays. Have contemplated doing it on a SUP but never had anyone to do it with. I'll be back down that way again this year. I will be keen to see how you go.

I will put up a post when I am thinking about doing it and see what interest arises.
