I have been looking at cocos island looks great for a week of sup surfing at the spot surf break .two families. West Island. Anybody done this trip ? Any advice on where to stay. Do We need A car ? Seems a lot of extra money to rent a car if island is so small ? Some large old sup boards for rent it seems. Not ideal but I can surf a 10'6 all rounder and still have fun I'm sure. It would be a mission to take my own board. Must we take own food or are supermarkets ok?

Jez at Second Wind Sailboards in West Aus does windsurfing schools over there for a few months a year. He'll be the one to talk to. Obviously there'll be others on Seabreeze who'll also be great for info, and Jez is probably in Cocos right now.

Hey mate spent a lot of time in CKI and I'm guessing it'll cost you big bucks to fly, accommodate, feed and entertain 2 families for a week-it's not cheap so do your homework and for e.g. Bali might be a better option. Amazing natural beauty and sealife-take your dive gear. People are beautiful and welcoming and quite a unique culture with muslim traditions.
Zero night life and entertainment and simple restaurants, one pub - this is perfect for folks like me but depends what floats your boat.
You should get away with hiring pushies for wheels anda bus can take you to the Home Is ferry. Basically theres only one break and mainly used by shortboarders but depending on how you behave in the surf yada yada. As its the only break the locals have got it wired and you'd want at least intermediate skills and its not classic Indo quality. I should add that a long term person died there supsurfing a couple of years agoby himself. His board was retrieved but not his body-sad story and I'll leave it there.
London just define what you want in a holiday first and then see if CKI fits within its uniqueness. Good luck

Doubt if the yacht club would let you take their boards into the surf and they are purpose built to float newbies around the lagoon not for surfing unless someone else started up and probs not. Check air freight costs too

The zephyr kitesurfing crew are over there now too. Ben sups and would have up-to-date info on what is available on the island (or how to get it out there) if they don't still have some gear of their own out there.
