G'day fellow SUP'ers, I'm heading to the Abrolhos Is in a few weeks for a 5day surf trip. Being an ex chippe my back is fu#ked so i mainly SUP now and only jump on the short board if its cranlking. i have never been out to the Islands before so i dont know what to expect.

Anyone SUP'ed the reefs out there?
What can i expect?

I've got a Wide Ripper 8'9" and a 9'6" Hokua
I'm thinking of taking the ripper and my 6'5" channel bottom pintail.

I'd love to hear from anybody who's surfed out there?

Hey Bender.
There is a really good reason you are not getting any feedback on this post.

For fear of being haunted by the ghosts of the islands, I'm gonna keep my mouth shut
By the way before you go make sure you read the book "islands of angry ghosts". It will send chills up your spine while sleeping over there at night. Things really do go bump!

hahaha, didnt you know? nothing is secret here in wa, everyone spills their guts about anywhere anyone asks about regardless how many people will read or in this case watch it. makes me sick, dont understand why if someone wants to share info why they cant just send a pm.

noone likes crowded waves, and any decent waves in wa are crowded even midweek, why make it worse?

*im sure someone will post boasting about some location they surfed uncrowded wave somewhere despite what Ive just said

Thanks for the input. All i wanted to know what the waves were like so can work out what boards to take. I have not asked for exact locations names. I'm pretty sure the charter boat skipper will have that sorted.

Some how i think that the waves out there named or not, will not get too crowded as they are boody hard to get too

Seriously young fella, chill out. There are thousands of kays of uncrowded surf in WA, there are even more uncrowded offshore reefs. As for the abrohlos, i hardly think its going to become trigg point or cottesloe. firstly you need a decent 50 foot plus boat to get there, secondly its a marine reserve with very limited public moorings, 2 i think, thirdly its a 400 km criuse up the coast or a 60 odd k cruise from geraldton in some of the worlds nastiest and windiest seas, and finally its both as sharky and haunted as hell. Its not the crowds that worry me about surfing nowdays, the increasing polulation means that crowds will naturally increase, its the crappy attitude that thesurf belongs to some and not others that is the real problem.

PS nobody in this thread has given away any specific break information. The abrohlos is comprised of 122 islands cspaced over a 100 km of ocean. I hardly think naming them or pointing out general info is a breach of national security!!

What happened on these Islands makes a Freddy Krueger tail look tame , if you look into the skipper accounts of the island he notes white barreling waves. If you don't make a close out section keep your eyes open for a spanish doubloon sitting on the reef.

Who would have guessed that islands and atolls stuck out in the ocean get waves ?????. There are no secret spots. Scan GoogleEarth or type any reference into Youtube like I did and hey presto................ and that clip was uploaded there years ago ! We have supposed secret spots on the GBR on the East Coast (displayed regularly in all good surfing mags) as well but the relative major hassle of getting to them limits crowd numbers.

Id imagine if you've chartered a boat for a 5 day surf trip, the skipper will know better than most on here where to go?
Which boat?

The right looks BULK FUN you'll need to surf fast if you're SUPing that wave.
Outside of the violence of the Batavia (what a heavy book to read Help Me Please Mr Wizard)
the Abrolhos is a paradise for a Surf/Fish Adventure

Violence
the dutch have got nothin on a few of the boys goin the biff of a Friday night in the Little rat club or the Big pidgeon hall. Back in the day anyway. Get a coupla stray scallop trawler boys on the turps and it was on
Theres been a few books written about some of the old fishermen from there over the years, great reading about how all the different nationality's sort of all congregated is seperate island groups and the boats they used to work from.
I also remember a Surfing World 6 page spread on a couple of surf trips we did after we pulled the pots back in about 97 I think with the boys on a well known cray boat.
I think bucket {the author}even named the article the island of angry ghosts
