I'm looking to buy a SUP for my self and for the Family. I want something i can use for surfing and my wife is into Yoga and shes been looking at buying a yoga SUP. I heard there are all on one SUPS out there that can be used for several activity's. Surfing, yoga, paddling, fishing diving, etc. Something like this would be perfect for me as my whole family could use it. Does anyone have any advice for this kind of SUP and does anyone know where i could get one?

Probably the easiest thing is around the 10 1/2 range.
Depends on your size (or dare I say it , wife's size)

Now you just have to look at brands...

Have alook at the BIC range of sups they are pretty tuff not too heavy well priced like mentioned above 10ft plus.
Or maybe 2 sups?

Cheers.

Depends on how good you want it to be at everything.

We all started on 11'2-12'6" surf shaped boards. We did everything on them because that was all there was. Surf, flat water, down winders, hanging around on the water. You name we did it. It was huge fun.

The only downside is that big surfy boards are a bit heavy. It was hard work carrying them to the beach and a bit of a heft getting them into the roof of the car.

My recommendation is always to start on a big surf shaped board. You can do anything you want on it. When you want to progress you can get something more extreme (shorter, longer, narrower, wider) and either sell the big bertha, or keep it for the kids to muck around on.

Take the constraints of all activities and mix n match:

- yoga: wide everywhere, wide, pad everywhere, flat deck, flat hull (stable)
- fishing: stable, hooks/plugs to attach equipment, or ease to add them (e.g: not a polyethylene board)
- surfing: with the above constraints, look for a longboard shape

Inflatables could be a very good choice: soft fell for yoga, friendly for kids, most have bungee cords on them to hold equipement, and are very stable.

No board is Surfing and Yoga , closest THING you will get is an inflatable.

I'll beat DJ to it , but a 11'4 Naish Nalu would come close. I use it in small surf, flat water paddling, fish from it and attach a windsurfing rig. It hasn't been used for yoga yet...although some of my wobbly moves could be classed as yoga.

you might as well give in to it now, you'll end up with more than one board! I tried to do something similar....well, tried to get a board that I could use in the surf and that would be decent on flatwater. I ended up with a fanatic fly 11'6. After the summer, I down-sized to a 9'10 allwave for the surf and purchased a naish glide 14' for the flatwater. The fly was a great board, but didn't do either area as well as the two separate boards do. We all say, one board, but it doesn't happen for long.

I started with a Starboard Atlas. Stable an buoyant enough to paddle with 2 kids on the board, super stable for the missus to do yoga and hell, I even surfed the thing...

Look around for a couple of secondhand boards, one for yoga and fishing, one for flat water paddling and small surf.Should end up costing less than one new board. If you buy wisely you should not be much out of pocket come upgrade time,or if anyone loses interest.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I've taken it all into consideration. I've been reading about all-round SUP's. I think that's something i wanna get. Because It will be perfect for the kids and for my wife and I. Maybe later once i see how my wife goes with using it for yoga, I'll get a Yoga SUP for her. I want to see how long my wife will keep up the yoga before i get here one.
I've been looking on line and found a few companies selling some all rounders for a good price. Most of the sites I've seen are selling on line. Has anyone had any experiences with buying on line and what are some good dealers I can buy on line from?

Hi Spencerstevens,

if you want to buy a board online I don't think you could beat Surf FX on the Gold Coast. They provide an excellent service and your board will arrive in one piece!

Naish Odysseus (www.naishsurfing.com/product/odysseus) will do a little bit of everything. Doesn't surf great in terms of making big turns etc, but picks up little waves very easily, and is decent enough for flat-water paddling. Also ridiculously stable (very wide - think it's 34" with very full nose & tail) so good for a family board and yoga (not that I'd know much about yoga...I'm probably the least bendy person on earth...)

Thanks all the advice.

I've decided I'm going to buy a board on line because im working in the sticks in WA and I want to get something delivered to my Family in QLD ready for my Christmas vacation.I came across a company called Jam Pacific. They are in QLD. I've never hard of them before but so far they tick all my boxes. Does anyone have any experience with them or have any advice with buying SUP's on line or other companies/shops i can buy on line from in QLD.

Cheers
Spencer

If it was me, I'd buy the board I wanted for myself and then get some cheap, second hand barge for the yoga.

Surely some ex rental, huge, stable thing would be cheap and perfect for yoga?

I can recommend Ocean Addicts at Cotton Tree (Sunshine Coast) as a great mob to deal with. I've only dealt with them through the shop, but they have a good website and will give you good genuine advice via email or over the phone. On the other hand, if you wait til your hols and can get in to one of the good stores with a lump of cash in your hand you will probably be able to do a good deal for a suitable board that's in stock. If you are on the Sunny or Gold Coasts or Brisbane you will have no worries finding something that will get you started and frothing. Surf FX and Briskites both look good to me too and, i believe, can arrange delivery... I love my Naish Nalu 10'6.5 for surfing (longboard style) and fun flatwater paddles. The wife and daughter like it too. I don't know if would work for yoga (it's not that wide) but i reckon your wife would get in to the paddling side of it anyway. I think some people delay buying and get too bogged down in research cos there are so many choices. Really, you can trust most stores to give you good advice and if you get the right board you can always sell it at a decent price and upgrade when the time is right. Go for it, you will be so glad you did.
