new board needed for the wife as she lacked confidence with my boards. (ranging from 100l 27" vangard to 7'10 smik twin). She adopts the sumo stances when paddling and prepares to fall in. She does have moments of correct stance and calm under my constant instruction and paddles great but wives never listen to their husbands so quickly reverts to sumo. This wasn't making for enjoyable paddles.
So decided on buying her a board perfect for her, even though she classed it as too much money.
Researching and visited few shops to discover a range of lady target boards which all seem 9-10ft and 150-160l. Did not seem suitable at all for a 5'4ft 55kg wife.
Remembered Niki at Standup SUP giving great advice to a lady once whilst in I there. So took wife to see Niki, explained lack of confidence, boards she had been using etc. Instantly Niki pulls a 126l, 29'5 wide Short Mac smik from rack and declares its perfect board, for wife size. Forget all this ladies marketed boards. 15 mins of lady to lady instruction on stance and moving on a board, then we off demo'ing. (same stuff I told her, proof wife never listens to me).
Wife instantly went from sulky Sumo SUPer to happy ballerina SUPer. From having her feet pinned solidly to the board she now was jumping and moving all over board. 100% improvement. note
So, advice to ladies, forget marketing, find a female shop assistant who paddles & coaches, and go smaller with the board to suit your size. Width give stability. Get lessons on the basics. Experienced Supping partners should forget teaching their other half.
Big thanks to Niki from Standup. Get service and I'm a happy husband.
Scotty SMIK - change your marketing from Esea womens board to the short mac lady version.
No affiliation with Standup,Niki or smik. Just happy to have avoided buying a too larger a board for a little lady, and having a happy wife.
For guys with an extensive quiver it maybe easier to find a girl to fit the quiver etc.??
Sorry just in a fun mood.

thought about that...20yrs together I've definitely thought about that...
My advice for non-surfing spouses is just to get an inflatable.
- hyper stable
- friendly, soft, non aggressive feeling
- cheap
- light
- sturdy
- takes no room for storing
- if you have kids, doubles as the perfect water toy.

I was a little concerned about the Happy Ending part of the post, thought it was about getting a massage, however I do love the blow up wife idea!!!

This really is a no brainer, If you were going in to buy a new carbon unlimited race board would you want a petite girl who doesn't surf but has an extensive history with swimwear sell you the board. And then get lessons from her when she clearly does not know what she is doing.
Or get advice from a guy who you cant tell sup everyday and knows his stuff. This is why we have to promote more females into the sport.
Getting more specific gear and more role models.
I have two mates whose wives have recently taken up sup. Three months in and the body shape change is showing. The bikinis are coming out under the rash vests, one of the wives I have never seen out of a one piece or wetsuit.
Sup talk move from the latest internet/ instagram hotties to whose getting the chop and whose getting the next vesectomy.
More wifey confidence means more action. Keep the compliments up, like wow your butt looks amazing with all this supping.
