Hi suppers.

Picking up a 2013 all wave tomoz. I see in an old post fin sets are discussed.... Just quickly what is the correlation of side fin size to performance. Bigger looser? Drivier? JB was talking about an M5 trailer ...... Is there a converter available for the rear fin box to chuck an fcs in?. I think that's it:)

Can't wait to get it out!!

Hey Skebstebamal,

Congrats mate, your gonna love it. Fins are such a personal thing, so unfortunately your gonna have to try lots of combo's to find what you love, but I find on almost all SUP's that I prefer a good big set of thrusters such as the Gerry Lopez SUP's and a slightly smaller trailer such as an M5 or even an M7 on a bigger board. This helps give you the drive and pick up you need to get going fast early but still keeps the board loose and maneuverable. Now this set up works best in the smaller range of waves, once it gets bigger, you'll find you can nearly to the opposite in some cases (I personally keep this setup for nearly all conditions). The fins the board come with are fine to get you out on the water have a great time, and they are what the design team used when refining the board, but you will notice a performance lift with performance fins. If you where gonna buy a fin setup or two to start with I suggest the Gerry Lopez thrusters (or quads if your planning ahead), and then maybe a smaller thruster set (around the M5/7 size. You can get a FCS converter box at most surf shops and a simple M5 or M7 will do fine in the back, or FCS (and many other fin co.) make specific performance STD box fins for performance mals, just remember to go small.

Enjoy, and share what works for you.

Regards,

JB

Thanks JB. Had my first go today. The board is great. Im keen to get it into some nice waves and see how it goes. The converter will be the GO. I've got a heap of shapers stealth fins, and M5's M7's etc from surfing so I'll have a fiddle. The shop didn't have the stock rear so they gave me a Naish to get me out....seemed to go nice. Cheers m8
