5 minute araldite removel..

Wanting to shorten my paddle maybe 2 inches. I used 5 minute araldite when I glued the sucker in. Whats the best method for removal on a carbon paddle? Will a hairdryer or possibly boiled water harm the carbon?

If you use a hairdryer, make sure you slowly but constantly rotate the shaft, otherwise you can damage the carbon. Also, keep the heat on the actual shaft and not the handle. Usually about 40-60 secs will do. Then you should be able to easily twist the handle off. I've never had a problem with this method. When reconnecting, its worth also heating the shaft for 30 secs or so, this allows the handle to slip back in easily.

And wear gloves, such as garden gloves. It is easy to burn your hands on the carbon when twisting the handle.

Just glued up a new Ke Nalu paddle the other day... hairdryer or heat gun both work well but the heat gun obviously works way quicker so be careful. Best tip I have is to tape just off the joint on both sides before re-gluing so you don't get a ton of glue all over the shaft. Peel it off while the glue is cooling and you will be left with a nice neat seam. Twist the handle while inserting as well to work the glue in thoroughly.

get a heat gun ,heat the area constantly moving the gun. First up run it for about 2min.

place handle down on a towel then fold the other sides of towel over the handle.
this will stop you burning your feet.
place the arch of each foot over the handles and have the shaft coming up between the legs
give the shaft a pull without turning.

if it don't pull give it another 1min and try again.keep repeating.

Any glue better than others for re-sticking deckgrip ?
