Having watched every heat of the top 3 (except the final cause I took Robbie for a surf) Keahi was overall the best surfer on the day IMO.
That said, Jackson was usually getting the best total heat scores due to a combination of wave selection and comp surfing strategy - lots of hits, not pretty but effective.
Justin managed to do this in the final while it looked like the other 2 struggled to find decent waves.
The wave of Keahi's with the little cover up was on the inside reform which was half the size and a much shorter ride, so was never gonna score as well as a big one out the back.

the scores was a nice touch . I'm sure the judges after watching that would have scored a couple of waves differently. Overall great surfing in crap conditions.
the asp took years to get away from the three turns to the beach judging criteria and the sport suffered. now they have chosen to reward innovative, progressive surfing the comps are amazing to watch. i don't wanna see someone sup a measured, controlled, well thought out heat. i wanna see someone blow-up.

They surfed well for what it was. Ive heard of a few opinons since the event and prob would agree some of the scores were a bit off but then again id hate to be a judge.
Good to see jacko going well on the stock standard laguna bay board. Makes me and DOGMAN look bad cause we ride TSJ's customs hahaha.
Maybe the judges had other agenda's? It's like Kelly V the rest. Keahi's doing what the wave is dictating not just looking for points. I thought judging like this was a thing of the past? That is not to denigrate the winner just an observation about competitions in general. Everyone knows 'Tha Dogman' is the real Australian Champion! Give the man a pie!!
