The Stand Up World Series
www.supracer.com/stand-up-world-series/ just announced details for their first big race of 2012; the CamSur World Paddle Challenge
www.supracer.com/stand-up-world-series-camsur-paddle-challenge/ in the Philippines. April 19-22 @ the CamSur Watersports Complex.
The concept is similar to the Namotu World Paddle Challenge event in Fiji event last November and the race format is exactly the same (SUP Sprints + Long Distance race; 12'6" boards for both races).
If you have no idea what the SUP World Series is about, check out: www.supracer.com/stand-up-world-series-camsur-paddle-challenge/
But basically the Stand Up World Series is the racing version of the Stand Up World Tour (the SUP surfing tour). Organised by the same crew (the Waterman League).
So there's $20,000 up for grabs in the Philippines next month; who's keen?
USA 4
Hawai 3
France 3
fiji 2
Brazil 1
philippines 1
Italy 1
Denmark 1
Sweden 1
Australia 0

Hard to believe out of 17 events there isn't one here....
Specially when we had some quality races like the 12 towers
Here's the Prize Money, shouldn't have any trouble attracting some decent paddlers with this much on offer.
Plus the big brands that sponsor the World Series (eg. Naish, Starboard, etc) will be paying for their top paddlers to go to the main events.
Prime: US$20k or more
5 Star: US$15k or more
4 Star: US$10k or more
3 Star: US$5k or more
17x events in total...
5x Prime events = $100,000
1x 5 Star = $15,000
2x 4 Star = $20,000
1x 3 Star = $5,000
8x TBA = probably another $80,000-$120,000
So that's $220,000 - $260,000 in prize money they're putting up.
On behalf of the Waterman League it is one of our biggest frustrations not to be in Australia already and we have been exploring all option for a couple of years now. We have made some good progress and there will be a minimum of one stop in Australia in 2013 for the Stand Up World Series and most likely for the Stand Up World Tour too....for this year, it was just a little tough to make it happen unfortunately. But stay tuned - we look forward to a continued increase in Aussie participation across both World Tour and Series events
We also hope to see a strong Aussie presence in the Philippines - it is going to be a pretty epic event! and it is not too far....
Hi WLeague, welcome to the breeze.
Just wondering if you have a breakdown of the prize money yet and what's in it for the girls?
Thanks for your comments and welcome! We will post all details of prize-money splits etc online this week at www.standupworldseries.com. There will be a strong presence for the women at all events and we will be crowning a Women's world Champion at the end of 2012 too, so it will be exciting to see - stay tuned for more info
Hi WL, welcome to sea breeze. Good to see a rep from your organisation getting out the info. Will there be better Video/internet coverage of surf and race events this year? From the past it has been hard to find stuff and most videos seem to be short promo vids rather than coverage of heats or finals. Makes it hard to get a feel for the conditions and how the competitors are fairing through the rounds.
All sounds good but i've done a bit of research on getting there.
U can get your race board to manilla on Singapore airlines but there is no way to get it on the 35 min domestic flight to the Naga Airport nearest to Camsur Waterpark.
So there goes that option, unless u drive it there from manilla.
So looks very hard to get your boards there, which suxs for us aussie's.
Philippine Airlines won't take any thing longer then 277cm.
Unless the organisers have some pull with Philippine Airlines?
XX angie
All sounds very exciting for the future of SUP. Lets hope travel wont be a problem for those BIG Boards
So that would be 5 or 6 planes minimum and most of them long haul. Obviously one plane doesn't get to LA and back in a day. Did Air Australia have a plane capable of flying to LA?
Our local on the ground organizers are working on a solution for carriage of all boards from Manila to the location - more to follow on this at www.standupworldseries.com
You will see a lot more of that this year - stay tuned - also live broadcasts to become more regular as things develop.....we have only just scraped the surface and there is a lot more to come - also we air regularly on Fuel TV in your region, so make sure and check it out
Thanks for the reply. Fuel is on pay tv, as in it costs money to view it. Beggers cant be choosers as they say.
The organization is providing a board transport from Manila to the event location, with a drop off point for boards at Manila Airport, so this obstacle has been crossed. A short commuter flight for athletes is then the only question
