saw the JP slate in the shop today and it looks such a fun tool. who's got one and are they as fun as they look and in what conditions. Could it be a good 1 board option or is it specialised.
The short answer your questions, me, more, 0to6ft+ and almost.
Had the 7'6×29 for over 6 months now. Still love it, still finding somthing new every surf. Flys through crappy surf has a tonne of lift. Had it out last week in some pretty big cyclone swell handles the juice really well no slide off the bottom amazing grip off the top. Paddles like a slug so not the board to be dodging clean up sets on. Saying that was still paddling back up the point way faster than the shortboarders. Can be a bit unstable in chop but most boards are still way easier to stay on than my 8'6x29 was. As for a one board quiver, it is for me but live on the g.c so usually clean somewhere and rarely gets over 6ft. I think it got a bit of a bad rap probably most guys demoed it with the factory quad set up which sucks. Run it as a thruster and it rocks.
if you're 100kgs using the 7'6" slate, you're a super star regards balance. i'm not a super star, am about 92 kgs, and could barely stand on the thing in chop. definitely not a one quiver board...unless you ARE a super star but even so i don't think it's designed for really big stuff. to me, the 7'8" Hypernut was far more easy to balance on then the Slate, but that's just my personal experience.
cheers for the feedback. Its looks such a fun board. Found a good article in uk SUP magazine standuppaddlemag.co.uk/2016/03/22/choose-your-weapon-jp-slate-7-6ft-and-8-6ft-pro-comparison-review/
I was initially looking for a 100l pro because of a particular wave I love surfing which I only get to for 2-4wk a year but I saw the slate and that looks more fun in the local waves. ideally I need both but budget doesn't stretch. Demo time
