Wassup charlieuk!!!

All depends why the 08 9'8 starboard which is what you have by the sounds is a good board in smaller waves.

Other factors we need to now are your weight, conditions you surf and experience

im 75 kg been surfing a good few years short board and mal and paddling for a year now allso windsurf slalom and wave and also take the sup out with a sail for float and ride

conditions varey a bit but i normaly only pic the good days to paddle in and sail the rest so anything from 2' weak ish beach break waves on the south coast here up to 6-7' angain mainly beach break waves in cornwall on the west coast here with the average and most common being a 3' harbor wall little wedge type wave

cheers charlie

Going on the info about the waves your riding and being in the light weight catagory you'll love the 9'0 stinger or similar. If you have the opportunity to demo boards, then try as many possible around the 9ft range. Naish and Coreban do some nice shorter boards now too.

Not sure if the shorter SUPs will have ability to connect sail though, maybe the SB will.

Good luck

cheers the reason for picking the starboard is i can get it cheap from a sponser but unfortunatly i dont think theres any where to demo them that im aware of espesaly in the winter.i know you can get the sb with a mast track but it may be a starboard thing.

the outher option is im thinking of coming to auz feb time to warm up and could posibly pick a board up there rather than paying xs lugage

Stinger sounds perfect buy for you Charlie on all accounts.

Good for your conditions and you can rig a sail on it for those 10knot days...

Go for it mate, let us know how you go..

go the 8 5 pocket rocket brother you will love it.stability is great and allows for even steaper take offs.set it on a rail as soon as you catch the wave and throw the little sucker around you wont be dissapointed.might even fit inside the car,get out there a little faster.no more climbing on the roof.

If you like the 9'8 because of its ability to catch waves earlier why not stick with it but get the pin tail? The 9'8 is a great board. Not too big and not too small.

well recived anuther new board minus the hole monday and we have had a swell push in today so got my first sesh on it today waves wernt very grunty so didnt get a feel for what its speed will be like but the board turns lovly and very nimble when riding 3' shore brake looking at the shingle beach suck dry 3 or 4 more days of swell to come so hopfuly will get a few more good seshions on it. would be interested to know if anyone has found any outer fins working better than the stock ones i have a feeling they might not be helping the speed, would puting short board quad fins be rong in a 9' board?

Hi Charlie,

I use the Simon Anderson quads in the large, which equate very close to M7 fronts and M5 backs. I think the small Simons would be good for your size and the stinger. Cheaper option would be to just get 2Xm5 for the front and 2XM3 for the back. The Simons are a nice glass fin and would be better if your looking for high performance, if not the standard M5's and 3's will do the job.
