I'm looking for a new race board to replace my k15 il be keeping hold of my coast runner I'm thinking of a 14' x 26 sprint or a 14' ace any recommendations.
Cheers Dean
Hi David,
I'm 6'2 and 100 kgs I'm keeping my coast runner for ocean races looking for something to replace my k15 looking to find a 14' that will match it speed wise will mainly be flat water to light chop.
Cheers Dean
With the 14' x 26" Sprint, they have only just released this model for 2014 so you won't get a second hand model - therefore I assume you are looking for brand new?
Do you mean the 27"ace.
Pt if I go for a sprint I will be buying new.
Yeah.. At your weight 'd be suggesting at least 27'' Ace.
As for the new Spint I'd be going 28 unless it's for glassy water then the 26'' would be fine.
Remember if it's for racing it's rarely glassy on race day.. ![]()
Where are you?
Is the ace much faster than the coast runner with it only being 1" narrower.the only reason I thought of the sprint is it seems to be a lot lighter than the ace.and the starboard brochure states the sprint is a lot faster than the ace.
I have a coast runner I would think the 2013/14 aces are a lot quicker than it. They are totally different boards. The coast runner how ever is extremely stable in all conditions making it feel quick in the rough ocean IMO
The sprint I have paddled is super quick in the flat!
I have the Coastrunner for down winding. I have just got the 14"x 26' Sprint for flat water only. Gave it a run in the ocean in 10-12kn breeze and it picks up runners really well. Wouldn't like to be out in any stronger breeze with it though. The Ace is a quick board but it doesn't track as well as the Sprint on flat water.
Thanks for your feedback guys how does the sprint compare to the speed of the k15 ?
I can't give you a speed comparison on the K15, but like Jenks I also recently bought a 2014 - 14 x 26" Sprint. At the last paddle loop I completed the 4.2 K circuit in 28.01 minutes... however, two months earlier I completed the same circuit on a 2013 Sprint in 28.56 minutes, this is a significant advantage at any level or event! I weigh 92/93 kg and I also trialled the 14 X 27 sprint which I found virtually unstoppable downwind, unfortunately I can't get one prior to the DR run???
I have the new 14x25 Ace and 14x24 Sprint and a mate of mine has the 14x26 Sprint. in light wind conditions the 14x26 Sprint seems pretty quick and can keep up with the 14x25 Ace but as soon as it gets over 15 knots the Ace comes into its own. Also I found the Ace in better in cross chop due to the shape of the nose and also the Ace seems to be more stable in open ocean conditions. In a perfect world for someone your weight I would go a 27 Ace and a 26 Sprint.

Woops... I actually trialled the 14 x27 "Ace"
and with my 92/93 kgs I found it to be virtually unstoppable, picking up runners really easily and falling off far less than when on the 25 ACE ![]()
