Recently downsized from 8'11'' Allwave to a 8'9'' Prowave Ltd (Fanatic) - and loving it. Can anyone recommend quad fins for the 2015 model (futures). Note sure if the future boxes are shallow or deep. Rider 85kg, shortboarder, beach and point breaks on the central coast, NSW.

Hi mate,

I find the new prowave works well with the Kinetic Racing X4 set it future box.

The front fins are pretty big for me, but the trailers work well with my machado thruster fronts.
Bit of mix and match but it works

Cheers Zeusman. I had read your post before and have been keen to try out the Firewire quad set. I am finding the original thruster works great for me, but keen to surf a quad setup (haven't been there yet:)

Many thanks

i dont ride a prowave, but have been playing with quads in my 8 footer Jimmy Lewis. Found larger fronts (VP V8's) give it that bit more drive and speed.
Currently using flat foil rears, waiting for osme shapers 80/20's to arrive to see if there is a difference. again tho play around and try different combos.
Prob is price of fins arent cheap so good luck.
Do check your boxes tho, as for example think the VP are all deep where my JL has the shallow rears.

Yeah, thanks for that. Have read a few posts about depth of boxes with the prowave. Still on the original fins...who knows what Mrs santa clause may bring (or approve:)

When you buy a "standard" set of quad fins, the front ones will have a 3/4" base and the rear will have a 1/2" base.

Hi zeusman
took some time but now have a quad set of firewires on my prowave - totally new board! hard to put in words, but super loose on the wave in a total control! Tight turns/snaps that feel like they slingshot you into the next move with speed to boot, yet able to do long drawn out arc on cutbacks with a greater sense of control than previous thruster setup. Thanks zeusman...totally stoked??

Hi Fepsi.
Added these to my 8'8" Deep and made it faster and looser than it already was.
Had a ball this morning in some full tide beach breaks....

How do you find the pro compared to the all? I've just upsized to the 9.1 allwave for "ease of use" for smaller or bumpier days. So was wondering if the Prowave in the similar size would make a two board covers most things quiver. Also have just received a set of quads to see if it will give it a tad more drive - not that its slow as a thruster, but I reccon there are times it should be a bit quicker to make sections.

Ditto on the CDrives, although I use them in a thruster set up, the go unreal. The are well worth investigating and Troy at CDrive is really helpful. Good luck, changing fins always changes the way your board goes and is quite addictive!

True, once you taste the "afterburner" feeling of C-drives in a bottom turn, you get hooked!

Do you really get that feeling from the c drives colas??, I have a couple of sets that I have only tried as a quad on a big board I used to have, wonder now if i should try in my 7.10 JC deep as a thruster??

Hi bobajob, when I got my prowave I initially wished I had kept the allwave for those choppy, messy days. catching waves is much easier on the allwave...can catch absolutely anything on almost any angle. In comparison, the prowave takes abit more work to get into position and balance in general, but once use to it, really pays off in the surf. rail to rail, floaters, backhand and generating speed so much easier on prowave. I only have the 1 board so I am use to the prowave in a range of waves and conditions - but sometimes miss a few if conditions are rough. I think having same size in allwave and prowave would certainly cover a few bases, but as always, recommend doing a demo on a few boards. Hope this helps, good luck

I would. I used to use them as a thruster in my JP pro before it died, unreal. Just bought this 5 fin set with futures bases so i can use them as a quad or thruster in my deep boards, depending on the conditions.

Unreal!! Glad to hear they're working for you. I still use them and reckon they're fantastic for SUP.

Hi Brenno'
fins look amazing, what size are they, and they look all the same size?
Been waiting for Troy to get some futures box fins made. I have the plain black fins in FCS, what do they call those colorful fins?

...........Shorty.

Yes, but you must push on them to feel the "squirt", so I don't think they work on bigger (>8') boards, as in my experience they tend to make the board too stiff, unless you are out in solid conditions where you can push an 8'+ board in turns.

In a nutshell, if you can "pump" your board, it means your gear can benefit from the C-Drive.

Also, they have a lot of grip at low speed, which helps a lot for SUPs while paddling for a wave, you can master the row more easily. Plus the reduced area speeds up the U-Turns in front of an incoming wave for these late take offs.

The only drawbacks I found were:
- maybe a bit more drag than optimally foiled fins such as the FCS Nexus
- some people are put off by the transition between extra grip on the bottom but looseness at the top
- quad setup can be tricky. Rear C-Drives can make some quads too stiff. In this case, just use C-Drives only for the front fins.
Note that it can help on long boards, too: I have 2 C-Drive in the front on my 8'4", but a central rear nexus to loosen it a bit

Thanks Colas, i will definately be trying them this weekend. I'm riding a 7.10 x 27.5 x 4 Deep JC model at around the 94 litre mark. Ive been using Shapers S7 Carbon Stealth in thruster. I used to run quads all the time but changed over to thruster, took me a few sessions to get used to it but i dont think i would change back now. I like getting on rail and the tightness of my turns without dispans that the thruster gives me..ill post my results with the c drive..thanks again

Have just changed my prowave to a quad made the board turns better but has lost speed not gained any board feels slow to paddle and can't make sections like it can as a thruster

Tried this combo out in some nice peaky waves (not at my local) over the weekend on my JC 9'2". Agree with Colas, looser top turn, nice drive up out of the bottom.

had a few surfs as a quad (FireWire futures)...love the quads when there is a bit of grunt in the swell/sucky and fast sections. i swapped back to thruster setup when a weak swell dropped and found much Easier to get vert (kinda). still early days in exploring fins but change in setup makes quite a difference Depending on conditions.
