Hi all,

Just wondering what people think about the following glassing schedule I'm intending to try on a 1.5oz (25kg/m3) stringerless EPS blank. Board is 7'7 x 27"

bottom:
3 or 4 inch wide carbon tape stringer from the nose to the fins
1 layer of XP226 vectornet (the bigger diamond) under
a 4oz e glass patch over the fin area
1 layer 6oz E glass with a good lap onto the deck

top:
patch of vector net from 1 ft off the nose to 1 foot from the tail
1x deck patch of 6oz S glass in the covering 3/4 of the deck (everything but the nose)
2x layers of 6oz E glass with a really generous lap onto the bottom.

I intend to laminate on a wetout table and then transfer each layer to the board. The one thing that is concerning me is that on the bottom, despite vectornet, carbon stringer tape and a tail/fin patch I only have 1 layer of 6oz. I do intend to do big laps onto the bottom to add strength. However just wondering want people thought about risk of snapping etc. I'm 70kg and not particularly tough on boards.

Many thanks!!

p.s. the aim is to save weight by not having 2 full layers of glass on the bottom. I don't mind if it is more susceptible to dings on the bottom but will I be building in enough stiffness and strength (to prevent buckles) with the 1 layer of glass along with vectornet, carbon stringer and big laps of glass from the deck

I think you should be ok. I've never used vectornet, but do something similar with 4oz S-glass. 2 layers bottom and 2 1/2 layers top. Boards are strong and light. I do however, add a deck patch area for where I stand to help with heel dents. Hope it goes well!

generally i think you are better off vacuum banging it if you are going to use vector net to get it to sit a flat as posable and to prevent getting any trapped air under the glass.

I agree with vacuum bagging and reinforcing your stand area depending on traction choice. Parabolic rails using carbon or carbon mesh will help with strength but will stiffen the board and increase weight. PVC stringer will also strengthen but stiffen. Sounds like it's going to be super light.

All my board up 7' got stringer and laminate both side in a single layer 200 grams with patches for foot paddling position. No one did'nt snap.
My suggestion as you dont put stringer is while laminating single 200 grams cloth to roll over lap on rails as far in as you can. Put carbon band on rail on the top of the glass as reinforcement if you want.

As Tim said parabolic made of carbon mesh can be useful and replace carbon rail bands.

But if you cant bag it , making it with contact as usual, think to cell with microcell and resin before laminating . This is really important : avoid micro holes and save weight and therefore costly resin.

In last, I reckon to avoid snap in halves , the thickness dimension as 4" is more important than several layers of glass .

I meant over 7' instead of up
