So next board purchase is on the cards, coming off an 8'11" Allwave, 80 kgs and reasonably experienced. Surfing mainly river mouth conditions, sucky take offs, fast down the line racing the lip. The Allwave is a bit corky for me now at 150 ltrs, get smashed getting out in the whitewash.
Looking at maybe the 8'8" Hokua or the 9'1" Prowave, speed is important as if you fall behind the lip the wave is over. Which of those boards might be quicker and any others to consider? Some forums suggest the Hokua is slow. Shorter isn't an option as it is a long paddle to get out.

You could try a C4 waterman " Spudnik" 8'4" x 29 x 4x 125 litres or C4 waterman "Microsub" 8'8" x 28 x 4 x115 litres.
Both are very fast down the line, nimble turning and easy to paddle.

I don't really get the whole 'can't go shorter' because it's a long paddle out to wave. Who cares how long it takes you to get out there, better off having a board that's suited to wave and not the paddle out. I surf a wave that's close to a km off shore and still use the same board. You may find something smaller a bit faster and easier to make the wave, especially if its a fast sucky take off....just my 2 cents. I'm on a DEEP and rate it highly for the exact conditions your talking about
At 80kgs and reasonably experienced - you have such an incredible range of boards to choose from. What is a "long paddle" out distance-wise? Back in my "over 105kgs" days, I would paddle my 8.8 Starby Airborn over 1km out - no problems.
I paddle a 7'8 Minion 3km to get to my break..takes 32min but need the speed these generate to get past the sections.

You might want to consider the Sunova 9'1 Acid
I ride the 9'4 because of my size, and still find it the highest performing SUP I have ever ridden.
By far the fastest board, easy to pump down the line
At 80 kg I think you can step up to the 9'1... they are very thin nose and foiled rails, so it will be an adjustment after your 8'11 Allwave.
I have owned many Allwaves in your size range..... the 9'1 Acid is an entirely different game.
Turns will be so much easier and the acceleration out of a turn will make you happy.
The thin nose slips under whitewater and the 9'1 length will give you good paddling speed on the way out.
I agree with lucyloo.... sounds exactly the sort of conditions the Sunova Speed was designed for...
Now you're more confused aren't you. Agree with cam, and you have heaps of quality custom or semi custom alternatives in your own backyard.
At 80 kegs you could easily do an 8ft deep Jackson, you won't regret it.
Thanks for the replies, a lot of cred for the Sunova range, will definitely try and get a demo on the Speeed, interesting looking board. Deep look good too, and it is locally made, might need to take a drive to the Goldy.
As for distance I usually cover 7-10 kms in a 3 hr session, yes a shorter board offers a different ride but my wave count drops as it takes longer to get back out when each wave is 100 mts or more.
it depends how you like surfing. A smaller board will let you sit closer to the pocket, while a longer one put you out on the shoulder more. Go as short as you can and sacrifice your wAve count for quality rides.

I like my Speeed for down the line speed. I have the 8'10" at 90+kg so you should go smaller, even though you have a long paddle. The Speeed paddles pretty straight too. I also have a Hokua X32 and while it is fun it is not fast.
I have just traded the Fanatic pro wave 9' 3" which i have been riding for the last 18 months for the 8' 8"speed. The speed is so much faster down the line, if you push hard of the fins on your bottom turn the speed it generates is mind blowing.The speeds construction fills very surfboard like, it flexes very good in the chop so you can push it hard in all conditions not like the pro wave which i found way to stiff and bouncy. As for turning i fill the speed is loser. Im 83 kg and ride large reef breaks , paddle wise the speed fills alot smaller but its stable good as the pro wave. My only regret is that i never purchased the speed earlier.

So what is the speed not good at? This thread makes the speed sound like the second coming,does the big square nose catch a rail on late take offs when conditions aren't perfect,does it turn like the X32 or is it more a long board feel?

flat rocker, tight rails and set it up as a quad.
lot's of 1 brand fan boy's (and girl) on here..it's not any particular brand that will be better or worse as all brands have boards that if set up right and you yourself can generate speed…will give speed down the line. :)
If Deep is local for you then demo some of their boards and head up north to Surffx and demo some Sunova and JPs etc etc.

The Speeed is just another board…and it is a great board as are JPs and Naish boards.
I caught the square nose a couple of times when I surfed one..but that was more poor technique from me than the speed's fault. The Speeed is not a forgiving board if the riders technique is not good.

And not much curve in the rails, it will help reaching high speeds in the high line without wobbles.
And well-foiled fins.
Another vote for the Speeed, it should do great on the paddle out and fast on the wave.
Fins, I have C drive fins in my Speeed, and there great, they even speeeed things up a little.

There are quite a few posts on the Speeed, and a few that compare it to the Flow and other boards. But for me, the Speeed is perfect for what you asked for, but I prefer my Flow (traditional surfboard shape if you are not familiar with it) if I want maneuverability on the wave. So yes, more of a longboard feel. And I have caught the square nose on turns and (very) late drops but that is more about my technique (or lack thereof).

Big generalisation here but .... most 'surf SUP's' will generate speed down the line if you are good enough
I havent ridden the Hokua 8'8 (I assume its the 8'8 x 32 you are referring to)
The Prowave should be fine providing its 2015 or newer. I found the earlier models were a bit chunky in the rails.
A 8'10 speed will be faster and paddle easier and be a little more stable than both Prowave and Hokua due to its shape.
The Minion's/Slates are fast but dont paddle as well.
I havent had the speed out in too many sucky takeoffs so I havent got enough experience to comment on that. I havent had the nose catch on the 8'8 speed but again the waves havent been critical.
Demo as much as you can, some shapes and volumes look wrong on paper but work.
