Wax for paddle shaft Vs other types
I would of thought the wax sold for sup paddles is exactly the same as surfboard wax??
When I was using wax on my paddle shafts, I used the hardest one, as they tend to melt with the heat of the hands. Base coat or tropical wax.
I guess the wax for sup paddles is one melting at high temps.
I now just sand very lightly at 400 grit the shaft.
It is probably overkill, but I use this:

The bright green version is a bit leary, but it made it much easier to find my paddle on the few occasions I have dropped it. Once in the Maldives it made the difference between finding it (washed up on the reef in an odd place) versus using my spare for the remainder of the trip.
But I used to use wax, and as Colas says, use the tropical stuff or it all comes off on your hands.
I rate the shrink wrap stuff. Had on my paddle for a few years and it is still good, providers nice grip. I will put it on a new paddle but I can't seem to kill my YOB paddle, it's tough!!

I'm using the same grip and I love it.
I wax the paddle shaft and the paddle handle, largely because it's so warm here in Qld, so sweat and/or suncream can be an issue in terms of grip. But yes, has to be redone every session. Think I'll go for the traction mentioned above. And I might try a leftover bit of hexa traction on the handle (just wonder if it might be too coarse for comfort over a couple of hours? 
). Might try Colas's light-sand solution.... What do you guys do for the paddle handle? Anything? Cheers!
