I am planning on bringing a very special custom board back from Dana Point in September and wanted to buy the best travel board bag on the market. Seen a few but nothing stands out from the crowd for nose, tail and rail protection, pretty much all have 10 mm foam with slightly extra reinforcement at the ends.
Any thoughts out there and past experiences on long haul transport protection and what is the ultimate bag ? .
Phil
G-Day Phil, Mate I have been using the 'Flying Objects' travel bag for the last two years and have done three OS trips with it, two through Indo with multiple flights on Garuda. I have the 8'10" roller bag and have found it to be great and would strongly recommend them to you.

I have this too... took 2 SUPsto Bali without a problem pretty easy to get around.
Although garuda must have dropped it somewhere along the way and had a board with some decent damage. ![]()

I've got the same bag, so much easier to travel with. Used it for Samoa, Maldives and a few Qld trips. 2 Sups, paddles, fishing gear, snorkelling gear. Never had a problem.
I do alwasy wrap wrap nose and tail in som high density foam too.

Thanks for the info guys the roller bag looks awesome just concerned that the bag will weigh more than my new Infinity B Line custom, anyone had issues with airlines and heavy bags.
Travelled with Geruda and Quantas, Singapore many times to Indo and they are great but a lot of the international airlines especially American ones are out to get us.
Any other options or is this the ultimate ?
hey,
the sunova board bags are good also! i have two , one for a speed 8.10 and one for a 10 foot , they are classy to say the least, well designed and practical, would recommend them anytime! traveled few times with them by airplane and zero issue!
A couple of years back I bought a custom board from Kirk at Simsup & he also included a custom bag from a company out of Costa Mesa called Vitamin Blue.,absolutely the best bag I have seen not sure if that is anywhere near Dana Point but maybe see if they have a website, cheers
ps. I also have the Flying Objects Travel bag - good bag just a bit heavy
The FO roller bag is great, I have one ...weight is the issue esp domestically restricted at 23kg.
How do people get around stuffing 2 SUPs in an 8'10 bag and throw in paddles etc ...mystery

But the Sunova bags don't have a reflective top, right?
No the Sunovas don't have a reflective side and as far as I know just single board bags, could be wrong though

Correct rossal, but the material is kind of dense if that make sense, never felt the boards were overheating or something and yes single board as far as i know..

These bags are VERY well built.
Strong in all the right places
Handles and straps in all the right places
I'd just throw my board in it and travel.... just the way it is.
Thanks Creek,
I did a short review on the "zone" just over a year ago on my Sunova board bag.

I have now used this bag for well over a year, and I use it a lot as I transport my boards ( 8'10 Speeed, 8'10" Skate, 8'7" Creek) to the beach in the bag, on a trailer behind my bike. The bag is bombproof. The zipper continues to be completely functional. Minimal signs of wear despite a lot of use. No complaints. Great bag. I have no affiliation with Sunova. Great company and great gear.

How much are the Sunova bags ?

I tried to forward the page with $$ AUD prices..... if not, just click the "$" at top right and pick your currency. All bags will show price

I'm a big fan of pool noodles. Bit of a hassle getting them on but takes board protection to the next level (IMO)

Hey CSE, what thickness did you get?
Bazza's solution looks perfect.
You might also want to take a look at GONG's transport accessory: it's a heavy cardboard sock!
Here is the link www.gong-galaxy.com/produit/carton-demballage-flexi-hex/
Unfortunately it looks like they don't have any left, but maybe Colas, who is Gong's ambassador, could find a way of having a special shipment.
Ciao

P.S. I have no affiliation with Gong. I am just a happy customer.
Pipe insulation on the rails (pre-noodles), blue board top and bottom, nose cone, tail block inside of a decent bag.
Never a problem except coming back from Barbados. They thought I had dope or coke and threatened to cut her open.
They didn't and I was clean as a whistle anyway..
Saw Dave Kalama pack a board this way. Bought 22' of pipe, cut a segment out with a rip saw. Board arrived without a scratch. The caved-in deck on my Widepoint 9'5" (2018) surfs awful, dodgy shape anyway, now sold. Downside of this stuff is that it all gets a bit heavy!
