I'm a beginner looking to get set up and am looking at the sunny king bamboo 10'6. Seems to me they are a good price and will get in touch with the bloke who makes them but was just wondering if I could get an independent opinion from someone who has one or has tried one?
Should be ok for you..
My 10'6'' Naish Nalu is 30'' wide.. I'm 6'4'' and also 95kg and personally I wouldn't want mine any narrower.. but 1'' should be ok..
Can you demo it first??? What conditions will it be used in??? and for flat water or surf.
DJ
Jonesy81, i have a 12"6 sunny king, really good boards and you get everything to get on the water, talk to Nick he will help steer you to the right board for when/what conditions you will ride..
DJ, will be mostly flat water with a little surf if I can find it. Am a bit time poor so won't be out as much as I'd like. Sunny king have 7 day returnso should be able to send back if it doesn't suit.
My first SUP board, which I still have is a 10' 6" Sunny King Bamboo board.
Good as an all round fun board for rivers & surf
I'm 5'10 around 83 kilos
Cheers Chris
Yup, it is a bit in the narrow size for your height. Nothing serious thought, just be sure to do your first sessions on totally flat ("glassy") waters. In the beginning, even tiny chop can be hell.
Anyone tried the ocean racer boards by sunny king?
Yep. They go well and represent good value.
Thank human cartoon, which one did u try? The 14' carbon package looks vey tempting
Have only been on a couple of them in crappy conditions at a demo day...a 12'6 x 28(?) was surprisingly good, stable too (I wouldn't normally get on a 12'6 that narrow but I liked it). And the big 14 x 31, stable and smooth cruiser but not a rocket on the flat at that width. Not sure if the new season boards have had the shapes tweaked a little. Nick (King) will be able to tell you. Neither are at the super-lightest end of construction but very respectable weight-wise (you're not paying $3-4k for them either!) At your weight either of the mid-wide 12'6 or 14 boards would probably work. Give Nick a call, he's a decent young feller and won't steer you wrong.
How did you go?
I have the girly Stevie King 10' 6" /29" board which I have been very happy with so far. It's my first board & I only started SUP this year. I use it on flat water (river). It's not as stable as my SUP instructors boards (he has a variety) that I have tried but his boards are mostly 31" or 32". I'm getting far more confident now I've been out a few times.
I'm short & a bit dumpy (165cm/72kg) but my hubby can ride my board no problem. He is 5'9" & 75-80kg.
We do only go on flat water though with the only waves coming from the occasional boat or paddle steamer ![]()
Yeah had a good chat with nick king he is a good bloke I'm tossing up between his 14' carbon pro or a 14' fanatic falcon. I'm sure either way I go will b a great board
