Hi John I have ridden both boards in all conditions and as soon as you say all round the fusion wins as the widepoint lacks glide, both are great boards

Depending on how big you are I wouldn't necessarily call the 9'8 fusion all round.
I'm 105 kgs and its strictly my short board not for any distance at all......but having surfed it this morning for the first time this year (lol) actually first time in about a month I keep forgetting how much I love it ![]()
I havent even thought about riding the widepoint........the fusion is that good.
PS they are only 31 wide

OK thanks - I am a 66kg beginner and I have ridden a 8'2" x 32" board that was OK but I want a bigger more stable all round board that I can get some waves on as well, - anyway I have just bought (got a good deal) a 9'8" fusion (they say that "they love the waves") so I will soon find out., I feel that in the future I may want to progress to the 8' 10" widepoint possibly (for the smaller physical size and also for the wave riding factor) any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, - also there appears not too be much concave / vee in the fusion (by just looking at it :-)

At 66 kg you need something more like a Starby Pocket rocket Or something similar of that size...which you can turn easy on, carry and progress eg 9ft x 30. I think you will want to change from the Fusion to a smaller wave board......it is for bigger folks IMHO
Thanks Skiman123, Shiresup, & Slam - I know I will want to change boards in the future - it depends on how well I progress. Also any thoughts on why the bottom of the board is a matt finish? does it reduce friction or perhaps increases it ?:-)
At 66kg and the question being best all round the 9 8 Fusion is a no brainer, when you are looking for a surf option at 66kgs you have a hole heap of choices like shiresup the fusion would be my small board. Don't over think bottom shape if you buy a name brand they work.
At 66kg you are a super light weight , always try before you buy but have a look at the JP 8-5 x 30 might seem small but it still has plenty of foam
Here's a link on it www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Review/New-JP-Fusion-Surf-85-x-30/
Re: The matt finish it breaks the water tension and lets the board flow a full gloss finish can stick.
