Hi I got my 2014 9 5 widepoint a few weeks back mine has 5 boxes what volume is written on your board mine has 155 litres not 153 re the brochure
Wonder if I got old stock with new graphic or just a typo error. I'm not experienced enough to know the difference between the old and new shape

Hey skiman123, geez now my heads spinnin....cant believe u got 5 fin boxes! So looks like I got the dud ha. And yes not only are the litres different from what they advertise I noticed that the inches don't always measure up to the centerimetres. ah well.........end of the day I just want a board that works good for me and have some fun! But I got to ride the 2013 9'5 and the 2014 and the new one feels looser and easier to turn from rail to rail, so the improvements I feel are really good. Im thinking of going shorter anyway but great to hear whats going on round the place! :)

Same as last years shape, with the added things like the new centre handle and new graphics, I have the 8'10" WP in carbon and it DOES have Four FCS fin boxes (for Quad) and one centre Fin box as like last years. And comes with a set of thruster fins for initial set up as advertised. IMO If you are going to run it as a Quad put 4.7s on the front and 4.5s on the rear, as I found that the best setup for all round big and small waves. Happy shopping..

Thanks for the fin advice!

Hey let us all know the outcome and answer you get back from Starboard.

I had the 2013 WP 9'5" and ran it on quads the whole year, definitely losened the board up nicely

Got a 8'10" arriving this week so the first thing I will be checking is has it got 5 fin box's or 3, I really hope 5

Phil

well..... I was told starboard said.....ummmm....arrrrrrr.....well......its a thruster...haa ha. But look I love the starboard stuff. Its strong and light and great colour schemes. But tell me, is the 8'10 2014 model the same board as last year- bottom shape design etc? Cause that's the length I would prefer but wanted the new concave and rails etc? Thanks Rossall!

Yeah the 2014 is EXACTLY the same board as 2013 it's a shame they didn't thin the rails out a bit for 2014 but maybe next year. The 2014 carbon 8 ft 10's arrive in Perth at Starboard HQ on Wednesday so I will let you know the box situation once I pick it up

Tried the JP 2014 Pro 8 ft 8 " Wide but wasn't too happy with it, no nose rocker, fragile and all the paint was chipping off after a few weeks, not what you want after shelling out $2,600

Hey Phil, Thanks for the info. I will be interested to know about the fin boxes as well!! Please let me know! That's very interesting about the JP's. Im with u and prefer the S/B. Have you by any chance ridden the 2014 wide point 8'2 or know someone who has? I have the option to get that board but at my early level of riding its pushing it. Im using an 8'8 JP at the moment and doin ok. Just trying to make the right decisions to save money down the track!

From what I can see the bottom of the 2014 9'5 has a lot of concave. You can see it or place a straight edge across it . That will help u see if its the new shape.

Hi Phil just noticed you responce, I gave you the good wrap on the JP 8'8 wide but unfortunately mine has turned out the same, been very disppointed with the durability, I have the 2013 starboard 9'5 WP Carbon as well as the JP and they are chalk and cheese for durability IMO, look forward to hearing how the new 8'10 goes, sorry I hadn't had my 8'8 a bit longer when we spoke

Windara

Not seen the new 8' 2" yet, probably this week though but at 123 ltr I think I would be struggling but I'll give it a go if I get my hands on one.

Just on the JP 8ft 8 - just started using one and really rate the shape. Someone posted that there was not enough nose rocker? They must be on super steep waves as I've had no issues and can't ever see there being an issue there...think the rocker is spot on. But that might be a personal thing as I reckon far too many boards have to much nose kick and rocker...just not needed.

[br]ordered a 2014 starbie 9.5 widepoint and their ad said it comes as a quad fin. Well it turned up as a thruster. Can anyone tell me if they have ridden both the 9.5 and the 8.3 in the wide points? Are there huge differences?

The 9'5" Widepoint has been changed quite a bit for 2014 from previous year including plan shape and fin placement. The new tail shape lends itself more to tri fin setup so Starboard have taken the rear quad boxes out for this model and if you compare with the 2013, you will see that fin boxes have been moved slightly to suit different tail design.

The catalogue does say 5 boxes but was not updated before printing.

Only ridden the 2014 9'5 briefly and would put a smaller centre fin in to loosen up (the 2013 also surfed better with a smaller centre than what comes with board) but has a very responsive feel to it.

Yes, huge difference between this and the new 8'2 Widepoint...
