Hi Sup'ers, I've ust seen some footage of the Starboard Wide Ride. Does anyone have any experience with this sup? I'm asking because, at 71 yrs and 73 kg [ can't wait for the age to match the weight] , I'm enoying my old McKill 9'5" atm. So stable while waiting for a wave and actually surfs OK. Not like my Speeed but at my age, just sliding down the line is kinda OK too. I'm wondering if the 9' 0" Hero would suit my needs. It looks super-stable but with a bit of a surf proflie as well. I'd welcome any comments or ideas. [So many of you out there who have tons more Sup experince than me]. Cheers!
Hi Captain
I have owned and surfed two of these boards, the Wide point and the Wooper. Interesting weird sort of rebranding lumping all of these boards together. Not sure of what size Speeed you are riding but either of these would be a step backwards as far as surfing performance. I am stupidly in love with my 8'10" Speeed, same weight range as you but a few years younger. Perhaps just size up your Speeed to find that stability you are looking for? But the truth is anything that keeps you active, stoked and surfing is totally worth it and if that is the Hero go for it! At least that is the line I keep feeding my wife as I head out the door to the beach.
Cheers
Bob
Hi Bob, I try to convince my wife that all this surfing is keeping me young and free from old-age related problems. Her look implies she's not convinced.
I can see why you love the Speeed but I find it's too limited to days when it's clean and almost windless. In those conditions it's brilliant. However, I want to paddle out on less-than-perfect days, and the Speeed makes me hesitate in case I get a bit frustrated with the stability. Thanks for the advice.
Cheers, Jimbo
