As a kid spent every holidays body surfing on the south coast of NSW including winter, every day, without a wetsuit. Only rich kids had boards. And wetsuits.
Rowed through school and after. Windsurfed for years - met a nice kid, Robert Nash or something. He could windsurf a bit.
Ski instructor in Canada in January turned me on to this: "Neil, in three weeks you'll have abs like mine!" It's ok, I know it will take at least four.
We'e paddled a Fanatic Ray, a Naish 11' board, a Naish blow-up, a Starboard 27" 14' carbon thingie, bought the Touring because in Canberra we don't have much surf and it was 32" wide and I have a wife and three kids too and an anticipation that ill buy another three or four boards or so soon. Scottie likes me already.
I'll report back when it's wet.
Hey NeillnOz make sure you come down to the Burley Griffin Canoe Club at Molongolo Reach on Sunday morning to meet some of the other guys and girls from High Country SUP. Some of us will be doing a time trial while others will be heading for a leisurely paddle and a coffee.
If you need more details let me know.
Copy that, welcome NeilInOz!
Yes, Burley Griffin Canoe Club is the happening place to be for Sunday paddles in winter.
However, this w/e I'll be at the NSE south coast hopefully having a SUP paddle down there.
Hi guys
I went down the coast - I know, not a good forecast! - but got three sessions in. Not much "Stand Up" Paddleboarding" - they don't call me Neil ("kneel") for nuthin'. (Sorry for that one. Duh.)
That ocean stuff is really wobbly when pure beginner and only Canberra lake experience.
I'm a total mug, but I reckon the board was really nice. When that nose goes under it pops out pretty damn quick!
And I DID catch some waves. Ok, it was basic, but huge fun.
Back to Molongolo this week. Many more hours needed on my feet.
