Intermediate paddler looking at making a trip to Sydney to test a SB wp 8'2". Anyone had any experience they want to share?
I have had a SB WP 8'2" silver for the last 12 months, I stepped down from a Fanatic 9'6 Allwave to the 8'2 WP, it's a great board, turns well, stable and great for the windy choppy days.
Just out of interest what are your heights and weights? I'm looking at boards around the 8.2 mark but are still a bit unsure. How do they go in smallish 1-2 foot waves
Buy one
+1
I got one in December, the timber version, after demoing one at Merimbula in November.
More of a shortboard feel without sacrificing much paddling stability.
You do sacrifice some glide though, I moved down from a 9 foot board.
I upgraded the fins pretty quickly. (FCS HI-1's)

I'm 85kgs+
1-2 foot waves no worries.
Thx guys. Alberto, how was the transistion - big jump down for u.
it took a little bit of time, at the start I would take it out in windy bumpy conditions, it was hard work but it didn't take long to get the hang of it and when you went in the smooth conditions it was a piece of cake!
Thx Cyberhusky. You riding The Harleys in quad or thruster?
U ever take it out in 3-4 foot?
Yeah, you're right it only comes as a quad, but the fin boxes allow some back and forward movement, so you can change the feel a little bit to suit bigger/smaller surf.
The biggest surf I've had on it so far was only just over head high and there was no issue then.

I am 5'9 and weigh 80kg. I found the board went well in the small waves!

I got the brushed carbon 8'2 ( actually mine measures closer to 8'1) and really like it. Im bout 92 kilo 6'1 and try to avoid windy conditions but its stable and u can throw it around . I have caught a rail a few times in hollow waves but I was probably not leaning on that rail enough but for average waves its a great all round board. Ive had it fast head high waves and it catches waves early and can handle a late drop. Highly recommend! I would like to demo a pro model at some stage.....
Howdy,
I have a JP 88 Surf Wide body. It also came as only a quad set up.
Demoed the 8 2 with Cyber last year and felt right at home on it.
I changed my board to a five fin box set up.
In smaller stuff use it as a quad.
Waist or so go for a nubster with the quad
Head or over head for thruster.
For the $150 OKE here charged my it is a no brainer as you get three boards for the price of one. Handles differently in each set of conditions and works a treat. I don't know why the manufacturers don't offer the option. Maybe just to sell more boards?
Go for it. These two boards are super fun for intermediate surfers as they are stable, paddle well, catch ripples yet come alive with a face and some steep.
Love mine and Cyber loves his
I have been tossing up between the 8'2 wp and the 8'5 mana. Bit worried that the Mana may be too thick (4.5" v 3.9"). anyone ridden both.?

Thanks. I'm 82kg. Think I might have to take on for a bit of a test
Don't forget or try to T up a demo of JP Surf wide body, 8 8 and 8 2.
Quads, CAN do with the 5th FCS fin box, work a treat as mentioned earlier.![]()
I have ridden the 8.10 and 8.2 widepoints both good boards, but rails are to thick and chunky for my liking
ridden the 8,8 and 8.2 jp widebody, 8.8 to stiff for me 8.2 bit better for surf sup
the 8.5 mana is my choice of all these boards, after demos of the above I bought the mana
easy to paddle, stable and so much fun on a wave.
I am 6.foot and 86 kgs.
the other boards worth a look are the new hokua 32 LE try the 8.3 and the 8.8 amazing for surf sups
What fins are those with wide points using. I ask as i can get some cheap harley ingelby quads. Are the stock fins that come with the board ok are are they cheap plastic like most boards seem to come with nowadays.
The carbon boards come with good fins but ast come with cheap plastic worth paying $50 more
For better fins
