I got a 7'7" Starboard (92L. 2014 model) las week.
Just had a few sessions and it feels great.

Im trying to get the right fin setup for this board.
The board comes with 4.5" side fins and a 140mm central fin.
I'm 165-170 lb.

I had the impression on my first couple of sessions that the back fin is rather big for my weight.
i have already tried another setup with a smaller fin in waist /chest hight waves and I think it worked better.
I also liked this center fin placed a bit towards the rear end of the fin box.

If you own this or a similar board, could you tell us your own experience with different fin setups.
What has worked better for you in small, medium and larger swells

Cheers

Hi,

I think this is what you're looking for.

Most of starboard's team riders use this fin as their central fin. I use it as well on my 8'0 pro.
Just make sure you have it all the way to the tail end of the box!

Hi Johnny

You mean to use the 140mm ( 5.9") central fin provided with the board?
It felt a bit big to me but I may be completely wrong as I'm new to this board

Thanks

Just use a 4'5" center fin, in the rear end of the box.

2+1 setups (bigger central fin) will kill boards that are intended to be surfed like shortboards.

You can move the rear fin forwards a bit in very weak waves to allow for smoother turns, if you want.

Hi Colas,

Thanks for your advice.
Your explanation makes a lot of sense to me
and it matches what I have already experienced trying different fins on this board
