Hi Glenn,

I have a Starboard 7'11. I weigh 65kgs and i can flatwater paddle it with great stablility and have had it out in surf up to 5foot. In larger waves its actually a bit too much volume for me as it gets a bit bouncy if the waves arent smooth. Due to its shorter length it doesnt offer much glide and also requires swapping sides about every two strokes while paddling to keep tracking straight.

At my weight it also still goes fine in small 1-2 foot waves and i find its a great allround board for my weight.

If i wanted a dedicated board for gutsy waves i would something more refined with less volume.

I guess it depends on your weight and what you want to do with it?

Hi Bondage.
I weigh in at 86k and I want it for smooth days up to say 5 foot.
I'v been riding the 8'5 naish which is 115 litres and havnt had a problem with balance.
I will be keeping my 9,4 jimmy for bumpy days.
thanks glennc

Hi Glenn,
The 7'11 is 116litres so pretty much the same as the Naish 8'5 you mentioned in volume. I would think 7'11 would go rail to rail better than an 8'5 due to the shorter length. Unfortunately i cant provide any comparisons as the only other board ive had a go on in surf was a 8'10 Starboard widepoint and at my weight it was like paddling a boat.
