just getting into SUP and am now looking at these 2 boards. I am wanting to go 50/50 flat water and surf and wondering what everyone thinks would be the best choice. I am 82kg and 5'10" and have never surfed but done plenty of wakeboarding, kitesurfing and sking....thanks

the blend will have more glide in the flat water. But the whopper will be better for surf long term. i have one, it rocks...well doesn't really so wide :)

Just got a Whopper for my summer board and I love it. I paddle flat water on it too and its a bit slow but still feels great however, being so wide you can just relax and paddle. Anyway we all say we will do flatwater and surf, but once you find your feet you want to surf as much as possible and unless your racing you just want to feel comfortable paddling. Put a 7" or 8" fin in the centre for surfing and it turns really well. You have to surf it like a mal and use your feet alot but its lots of fun. Also 10' is a bit easier to transport and store than 11'2".

I'd choose the Drive over the Whopper on surfing alone.

Hey kiteSUP,
I've owned both of these boards, If it's more flat water go for the Blend.
If you want to do any surfing at all give the Whopper a miss and get the Hero.
9 x 33. Best move I've ever made.

I have an 11'2 " Blend and a 9' 2" PSA wide ripper. The Blend is a great board for learning , cruising along the beach or up a river.
It is also a great board for waves once you get better, you really need to use the paddle and actively walk the board to get the best out of it.
You should also consider the drive instead of the Whopper (too wide) . You can't go wrong either way.

The blend is a fantastic board and at your weight/size will paddle and surf better than a whopper every single time. The whopper is slow to paddle and slow on the wave and unless you plan on putting on 20kg and only surfing beach breaks then the blend is your board - hands down.
