Hi
Im new to the sport and have been recommended a starboard drive 10'5 x 30 and converse 9 x30 by two different stores.
Im around 55kg, 167cm in height and based in Perth, so will be using the board for about 65-70% flat water or behind the surf zone and I'll try get into the surfing side.
Any recomendations would be fantastic.
Probably the Drive. We've got one, and my wife love it both for flat water paddling, and for surfing small waves. Converse is probably if you are more focused on surfing and not interested on using it for regular paddling
My wife really liked the Converse on flat water too and she is about the same size as you. The Drive will track a little bit straighter but not a lot. As a plus, the converse is easier to store at home and to get on and around the car for your height as well. The carbon if you want pay more is super light.
Hi, I share a SB Element with my wife. It fits between the Drive and Converse size wise at 9'8". We a both fairly small at 65kg and 48kg. It's surf well and is easy to paddle with plenty of stability and glide at my weight.
Its an older model and is no light weight. My wife can still get it on the roof of our old Landrover but she doesn't find it easy.
Thanks for the Feedback, really appreciate it. I tried the converse and element which are both great and prefer them to the drive. However as I was about to purchase the converse, the fanatic diamond pure 9'6 has been recommended - any comments on that board?
Thanks again
The Fanatic has 151 l - very similar to the Drive. Converse is 136 l and at 55kg the 136 l will be heaps for you. Best thing you could do would be to try and ride both but either would be a good first board.
can say the drive is a great board; surfs well, gets on every wave almost, can turn if you weight it right.
