I'm looking to replace and old performance longboard. Being too far from the shapers I would want to get a custom from I was pleased to see that Sunova has gotten a foothold over here.

The board I'm replacing is an all purpose tool for me. The kind of board that will take it all from messy to high tide fat, from micro to overhead.

I'm thinking of the 10-6 Surf or a slightly longer custom Speeed? The Surf sounds like the one but the Speeed is something fresh. Anybody's ideas would be welcome.

Slightly longer Speeed than the 10'6 Surf? or the longest Speeed at 9'5?

I am definitely considering the 10'6 Surf for my next longboard SUP.... it sounds like a good mix of performance and grace.

A 10'6 Speeed is an interesting thought.... but I can't imagine keeping the shape the same at that length.... it would be pretty wide.

I have a 9'5 Speeed that just makes everything easy and fun. not a longboard ride at all, but a great board for winter gear.

I am in love with the Speeed tail.... I think it would work awesome on a longboard shape and make it super carvey.... but I would hold the width to 30"
You could stomp on the tail to carve super tight turns and cutbacks, then use the tail rocker and channels to help hold on noserides as well....
I don't think I would go with the Speeed nose on a really long board though.... it would be too big IMO. I would be more inclined to marry the tail and hips of the Speeed to the front half of the Surf.

You can get customs from Sunova.... talk to Bert and run some ideas by him.

Thanks Creek, great info you've given me, a well thought out response. I was thinking of a slightly longer Speeed than the 9-5. That or a 10-6 Surf. I think you're right that the best would be to ask Bert himself. I guess it's two very different boards I'm describing.

Both of you are right to think that's two different boards which has been described in the above lines. Best is to scroll the right volume to fit your weight in the Speeed list of available shapes, rather wanted to order a customized length as you did want to do.

As well Speeed and 10-6 are different boards , scroll the 10-6 list to find the right one for you. Bert did a accomplished job...don't change anything else.

When SoCalGremmy ask me for a design, I pull out first my 6'8" to 8" picking some tendency toward some cruising board and accidentally that's looking (still a the bit far ) as a Speeed.
The Speeed is so shape logic in its kind

I have the Speeed but not the Surf. I am not sure that there is an all-round board that would meet all the conditions you have listed, but the Speeed is a fast but narrow speed machine. I would get the Speeed (as my all-round board) if:

1. You were happy to paddle hard for the micro waves and accept that you can't catch them as early as on a long board
2. You were happier going straight - yes you can turn the Speeed but it isn't like a short board - you have to really stomp on the tail (much more than on my Minion or Hokua).
3. You had good balance, because the Speeed is normally narrower, and in the slop the 29-30" width could pose a challenge.

Of course, you could get a wider, longer Speeed, but then I am not sure it is still really a Speeed.

A short board, a step up, and a gun. 8-4, 9-6 & 10-4

The missing link for me was the longboard shape that could replace any of them for whatever reason, think chop, crowd, laziness.

A custom 10-6x31 Surf it'll be. A speeed would have probably worked too, maybe next board.

I have a 10' Style waiting for me when I get home (that's right isn't it Kyle?) so I can't compare anything to that. But my assumption is that it is for small days that invite a walk towards the nose (whether you get there is another question ). You can ride anything in any conditions, and any board can be turned, but I don't expect my Style to be my go-to board when the waves are bigger and invite fun turns.
