hi, been using a 12'6x28 starboard all star for last 18 months, but want to change to an I SUP to aid me doing rivers and get back from downwinders easier by bus/taxi.

what are people's thoughts or experience with these? Looking at the 2016 versions. Also not sure whether to stick at 28'' or go to 26", I don't intend to race, but also dont fall off my all star much at all, so unsure whether the extra glide is worth the extra instability. Focus sing on the 12'6's unless someone can tell me the 14 foot ones are a lot better.

any help appreciated.

cheers mike

I'd recomend staying with the 28.. How heavy are you?

One thing I will say is a 26" inflatable is not quite as stable as a 26" carbon or glass board. So going from a 28" All Star to a 26" Astro Racer is going to be a bit more of a leap than you may be anticipating. I would also only consider an inflatable for downwind if you absolutely cannot find another solution.

Thanks, I had sort of guessed the 28" for the reasons you say. I'm 80kg. I wish I could find another solution but I paddle on my own, doing 4-6 miles on a downwinders so being able to get a cab back would be great.

It looks like the red paddle with the battens and 22+ psi is going to be pretty solid, appreciate the lack of rails, that's why I was looking at the starboard with that rail piece on the tail.

anybody got any experience of them?

mike
